One of the staples of the series is pairing up party members (or not), which leads to multiple endings. This sounds like pretty much my dream RPG. Sticking it on my birthday wishlist now.

You don't get to pick which party members pair up most of the time. With the main character, there often is a choice, but the supporting characters have designated couples that you can either work to put together or not.
