| Dear the_hms_stfu members, This comm has been running for a long time - we've been on JF since September 2005, and were on LJ before that. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had just come out, and canon deniers were wanking up a storm. Gradually that died down, but the Snapewives were there to pick up the slack. For a while, though, we've been running on empty. J. K. Rowling gave us the last piece of the canon in 2007, apart from little bits in interviews and the Scottish Book (and who knows when that's going to be published). The crazy shippers have dispersed or locked down, and the Snapewife fervor has been replaced by a kind of forced-but-determined refusal to make any sense. Gone are the days of total batshit insanity and really memorable wank. And recently we've had a few wanks of our own. Kind of serious ones, too, that have gotten us on unfunny_fandom and made us look bad. That plus the unexceptional nature of what tends to get posted here has made us reconsider the future of this comm. We have decided that the_hms_stfu has had a good run, but it is time for it to close. | 1. The fic-excerpt rule also applies to posts about forums and LJ comms. Keep it short, please. If you really don't want certain posts on the forum missed, do an F_W-style writeup and link to everything important. 2. I thought the no-trolling standards were clear. Apparently they're not? Do not go from here to there, especially if "there" = a community featured here quite often, like DeathtoCapslock or Snapedom. Do not even go to posts that haven't been reported here, because that's still trolling. The one way around this rule is to be a proper member there and join in discussions with thoughtful posts over a long period of time. If you see something stupid and you want to respond to it in a way that is not as polite as you can possibly make it, bring it here. For example, say I'm browsing and look at the most recent post in DtC, and see this: Hagrid shows disdain for everything muggle here as though he were a pureblood wizard. Of course his pretending to be a pureblood is completely different from any half-blooded Death Eater pretending to be pure. Hagrid isn’t even pure human, but he was sorted into Gryffindor. What was the acronym...? IOIAGDI - It’s Okay If A Gryffindor Does It. Dumblesnore’s pet has been trained to utterly reject his giant roots anyway. I suppose JKR’s intended message from Hagrid’s storyline is to advocate culturalism (the idea that one culture is superior to all others) above racialism? Ugh, I think. How silly. So I come here and c/p it with a link, then write a post explaining how Hagrid sharing in a common prejudice is not the same thing at all as Snape signing up to kill other people of his same ethnicity. You don't have to summarize a whole post. You don't have to copy many comments. If there's something you want to snark at, do it here. If you don't, you will be banned, temporarily or permanently. | ||||||||

| There are six reviews on that Harmonian fic that are obviously from here. Since none of them have usernames of people here, I am assuming that they were all left by anons, and anon commenting is off until further notice. Also until further notice, excerpts from fics should be no more than 250 words each, with a maximum three excerpts per fic. (Unless you're doing some sort of mockery/sporkage.) | ||||||||

| I'd just like to remind everyone that it is not necessary to post more than a few choice bits of crazy - we can always click the link and see the whole thing if we want to. Also, while Terri_Testing does seem to post an essay a day - maybe we could save up and post a few at a time, or possibly just post the most absurd? We used to do more here than just mock ridiculous meta: feel free to look further abroad for material, or post good fanfiction. Post parody fanfiction! Let's not be totally one-note. | ||||||||
