Oh boy
The boards have been going crazy the past few days, ever since the finale of the Apprentice. In case you haven't seen it, Randal (a black man, widely considered to have done the best job overall) was hired, and almost directly after that, Trump asked him if the runner-up, Rebecca (a white woman) should be hired as well. Randal said no, "It's the Apprentice, not the Apprenti," or wtte. Trump said okay then, and then the show ended because this all took place at like 10:58.

Over on the episode thread, a lot of people are complaining about Randal's decision, and saying they lost all respect for him.

On Randal's specific thread we get more of the same, with the bonus of some MsAlli posts. At one point she says Randal's act was "Maybe the lowest and most indefensible thing I've ever seen on reality TV, and I've watched a lot of reality TV."

And then we have the Race and the Apprentice thread and the General Ethnicity and TV thread, who see things completely different, and do a lot of meta talk. Harsh all around.

Not really twop crit, but I figured it went better here than on f_w.

It used to be a fun place to get together and talk about how silly and superficial the mods and posters on TWoP could be.

I adore TWoP Sucks, but it was always silly & superficial itself. The cool thing is that most of the posters at T-Sucks are self-aware about the meta-silliness of it all.

Most of them, but just barely. Used to be that nearly all of them were. Now they're getting this invasion of just-banned people who can't tell the difference between being justifiably banned and being banned for stupid reasons.

How can the fun be brought back? Or has it just run its course?

Has it run its course? Good question. I hope not, as the general moderation there is good. I'd like to see the posters come up with something wittier than "Alki" or "Llinda", though.

I'd also like to see Gash Bonwit come back. Those were some beautiful, beautiful posts.

Gash Bonwit was so funny and smart, and probably the best poster we ever had. Now we're left with the comic stylings of IDriveATruck, which is great if you like folksy, foul-mouthed boring stories with a few "ka-razy!"s thrown in. She seems like a decent person (although a seriously unfunny one), but I do not get why some of the posters kiss her ass up and down and beg her to describe the merits of Peterbilts vs. Mack trucks.

Well, I don't think IDAT is necessarily trying to be funny. I think, incidentally, she frequently is funny. She brings a good vibe to the board. That truck talk was in a chat thread, where random stuff goes.

I think that IDAT is a positive influence in that she tries to have a perspective on TWoP instead of screaming OMGSOEEEVIL!!111 whenever someone whines that a mod bitchslapped them for breaking a rule. She also has pretty cool commentary on the shows, and I like that she's straightforward rather than pseudointellectual in her posts.

I don't find IDAT longwinded stories amusing, although I agree that she seems like a nice person and she certainly isn't hurting anyone, I just don't like it when ANY poster aggressively draws attention to themselves, because it often isn't contained to the chat threads. The topic is TWOP and it would be nice if people would stop "auditioning" to be liked. However I am an unusually crabby person so maybe it's just my own personal peeve.

Maggie's very serious, but she's a harvesting bot for the FTC reports. It's a convenient service to have around.

PMK has mad moderating skills. She's got a deft touch, laying back most of the time but defusing flare ups when they happen.

I'm starting to suspect that Stroppy Mod is a ghost-nic for PMK. I've noticed that PMK will say very little, even take part in a few conversations that are headed off the rails, then Stroppy Mod will come in and start smacking. It's weird that it's basically PMK's site, but it's Stroppy who does all the modding. Today when PMK told lastar he was being snotty was the first time I've seen her do anything resembling moderation. Not that the site needs much of it, but still it seems strange.

Hmmm. How does Gaucho Marx fit into that scheme?

No matter how hard I try
To understand the reasons
That we carry on this way,
We're lost in this masquerade.

People like her because she doesn't do anything. You can't piss anyone off if you don't do any actual moderating. The downside is that you get posters like maggie, woodstove, Miss Windy, and Vitavetavegamin acting like assholes all over the place. I think some TWoP mods could learn from PMK, but by the same token, PMK could learn a little from TWoP.

Most of the people who cry about being banned because they flooded the forums with messages of Clay Aiken worship, etc. disappear after a few days because people aren't that interested in their whining.

True. But a few noteables stick around until they're thrown a bone of recognition out of sheer exhaustion on the part of the other posters. Not so much the Claymates or...um...what do we call Bo's annoying fans? Bovines? Anyway, while the members of "rebellions" don't really find a safe haven, some people who were banned for reasons almost equally justifiable will find sympathy. For instance, if someone is banned by Miss Alli or Sars for actually breaking a rule, it's likely that they're going to get more sympathy than if they had been banned by M Giant or LTG.

I won't even get into Jacob, except to say that I don't think that anyone who was banned by him is telling the full story when they complain about it. Of course, that's just a guess based on experience.

TWoP Crit: The new TWoP Sucks Sucks. How long before someone starts saying "Those looneys over on TWoP crit are so annoying! They keep going on and on about Woodstove! I'm starting to worry about their mental health! They're clearly all unstable."

At this point I wish somebody would start a TWoP Sucks Sucks LJ or board instead of hijacking this community for that purpose.
I hope ignatius, who started this section, really didn't want to discuss The Apprentice stuff going on over at TWoP too much since only about a dozen posts out of 85 (and counting) are actually about that.

So far it's just a bunch of TWoP Sucks people there trying to derail the board by mocking themselves. It's funny that they're so afraid of being criticized, when all they do on TSucks is criticize TWoP and its people, and one of their major criticisms of TWoP is that they can't take criticism. potmeetskettle, demonstrating how aptly named she is, even said the criticism of TWoP Sucks that appears here was just someone with "too many sour grapes in their diet." Why would anyone be bitter or have sour grapes about TWoP Sucks? It's not like they ban or warn anyone. Maybe it's just impossible for them to believe that they are anything but smart and funny and absolutely correct about everything, which would pretty much make them exactly like TWoP. At least it took TWoP two or three years to get as bad as it is. TWoP Sucks went from being a fun and funny site to being a haven for hypocritical, mean-spirited gasbags in less than six months.

Totally.

"TWoP Sucks people are invading the board!"

Yeah, but it's not like we're trolling. It's up to the rest of you to actually criticize the site. If we've made most of the posts, I believe that it speaks more towards your lack of anything to say than our silliness.

"Eris Rising derails every conversation and makes it about him!"

Yeah, this was kind of funny for a while, but really? Shut it. It's not like I'm sitting behind you at your computer, forcing you to talk about me. Feel free to talk about whatever your little heart desires. You know, just like I do, or every other freaking person online does.

"TWoP Crit has become more about TWoP Sucks than TWoP!"

Again...feel free to post about what you want to post about. No one is stopping you. Talk about The Apprentice, Jacob, Miss Alli, Television Without Pity, the enforcement of the rules, whatever. If you're interesting, then people will respond on-topic. If you're not, then they'll find something else to talk about (though hopefully along something close to the same lines), and you'll have no one but yourself to blame.
