Posters promoted to mods?
Apparently TPTB at TWoP have promoted a few posters to mods. Which... WTF?

A search done by sloo over at Snarkfest found:
TWoP Barnes
TWoP Bayliss
TWoP Mod 7
TWoP Sun
TWoP Nikita
TWoP Pembleton
TWoP Mars

And already TWoP Barnes is throwing her power around in the Supernatural forums. According to Actonbell at SF: She just seems a wee bit too overinvested in the show -- she's made a ton of posts already, and has come up with some rather arbitrary rules (such as the "No boards on boards" also applying to other websites -- so if there's speculation on the reliability of a certain spoiler site it would be a warnable/bannable offense). TWOP does not need another powertripping gasbag like Miss Alli.

I never thought I'd see the day when TWoP actually promoted a bunch of posters to mods. Did TPTB run out of friends to turn into mods or something?

I was banned also. I had a warning about using proper grammar and punctuation. I e-mailed them and told them I had a learning disability and wouldn't post anymore. Instead of answering my e-mail I was banned.

Well, once they had to fire all their friends for missing their deadlines, wanking on the forums, and just generally being dicksmacks, I guess there weren't too many willing victims participants left.

Do we know if these mods have made it known they were former posters? Or are they posting under both?

I would ask if there's been an official twopnouncement but unfortunately I know twop a little too well to expect an answer that makes sense.

This should be.... interesting?

At least one was a lurker, and possibly more. However, it's one thing to lurk, another to actively post, and yet another to actually mod. I wish them luck; they'll need it.

I was just banned from the site (without warning) for daring to make a comment about TWOP Bayliss' condescending posts. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but it seems they deserve the criticism they've received. I can't believe how much I detest them, they so aren't worthy of such depth of feeling.

In the next post I think you'll find why you were so unceremoniously banned. Besides it being twop I mean.

I haven't been there in about 2 years. Looks like they're theme re: capricious & arbitrary modding should be the Talking Heads, Once in a Lifetime for the "Same as it Ever Was" lyrics.

I empathize that it's a hard board to mod, but they don't even hold themselves to the same standards as they hold posters. And even when someone geninunely wants to know what they've done wrong (vs. just protesting it), some of them (particularly SARS & Miss Alli) get snotty & raise the warn levels without explaining. Sad thing is it wasn't like that when I first joined back in 2000. The rules were actually more to keep it civil between posters than a way for a power mad mod to inflict authority on people. Well, it was fun while it lasted. So long & thanks for all the fish :)

I recall that in the FAQ they specifically say you're not allowed to have the name of a character in your username.

But I guess it's okay for the admins to break the rules instead of say... setting an example.

How you go and accomplish that considering that lots of people on tv have normal names. If you name yourself Veronica or Dean there is no way of telling whether you named yourself after a tv character or yourself.

Yeah, she's kind of a huge bitch, and she's only been moderating for a very short time. She needs to let things go for five seconds and see if it actually goes somewhere bad before stepping in and telling everyone to change the subject. I'll stay on, though, because I love Demian's recaps.

Yeah, I'm another lucky one that was just banned by TwoP Mars. WTF! I made a little "board on board" comment and was told to take a week off, then he/she comes back and says "on second thought, banned". No explanation, no nothing. Whatever. Probably just a geek hiding behind a computer screen acting like they have so much power. So I'll just sign up under another name when I feel the need to post again.

Was just banned by Bayliss for nonsense reasons. No warning, just banned at the first "offense" when I was a good, long term poster.

Lots of others seem to be facing the same thing lately:

I have been on Television Without Pity for almost 4 years with no problems when suddenly about two weeks ago I got an insulting "warning" from someone who thinks way too highly of themselves and their opinions about one of my posts. It was a response to another post that cracked me up so much I just had to reply. Apparently the Moder-nazi's don't allow that or something. Then yesterday I go on and try to reply and I am banned. So I look at the comment that was so horrible that I should be banned for it and it is from a comment I made in the American Idol forum. I expressed an OPINION about one of the contestants who was being relentlessly compared to a previous contestant and I just stated that I didn't the guy needs to be compared to the previous person. I also took issue with all the idiots judging him solely on his looks and not on his talent and I gave my OPINION about how I would rather listen to an ugly talented guy than a hot person that had no talent. The moderator sent me a very condescending and ridiculously snotty message about how I was too defensive and needed to go find a fan website instead and now I was banned. I can't remember which Moder-nazi banned me but I think it was a girl judging by the stupid snotty attitude and the words she used while wielding her "power". I have a feeling these moderators have no real life and no real power in the real world so because they are now moderators they abuse this power. I was a moderator on a political forum once and I have seen this kind of ego head trip before from other moderators. I mean, why on earth would you want to outright ban members for doing things that are NOT detrimental or negative to the board? Isn't the point of having a forum to have MEMBERS there? If you ban for the stupidest things, pretty soon there will be just a bunch of people that think alike, post alike, and act alike. That = boring. Really too bad too, that board USED TO be fun but now it is just ridiculous. BUT, now I need a new board that has high volume for my entertainment forum fix.

Hi, I'm new here, but a former "Fanatic" with 7,208 posts at TWoP. I got double teamed by Strega and Barnes. I apologized to the former, but the latter banned me a week after a post in the Food Network forum. The former dunned me after a post in the Actors We Hate section. I only posted on the soap opera, How-To Reality, ompetitive Reality, Sports, Pop Culture and TV Potluck sections. Feel free to look under doguncle in TWoP and, if I'm in the wrong, I'll apologize.

My friend just got her account suspended at TWOP for absolutely nothing. Seriously! Someone named Dietz was the old mod for the last year and everything was cool. It was a great forum then it is announced Dietz is taking time off and we get BARNES. Horrors, I got a warning and two notes just for one post. My crimes? "wonky format, linking a newspaper article and mentioning Idolforums." My friend posted her sadness that a contestant was sent home and speculated. Nothing more. Her offense was NO OFFENSE. And she got no explanation, in spite of emailing and asking why. RIDICULOUS the way BARNES operates. I will never post there again and I could care less about reading there. I had no idea until I started researching Barnes, which led to wikipedia for TWOP info, which led here, that we were joining a long parade of people abused for trying to participate in an on-line forum.

Capitalization
(Anonymous)
2008-06-17 10:57 am UTC (link)
I had two warnings for not using proper capitalization, and one for starting a post with Uh, as in "Uh, is this star really going out with this star?", both stars in the show being discussed, discussion started by other posters.

The moderator said that any post starting with "uh" would be considered hostile by other posters.

Arbitrariness.

Count me among the ranks of the banned. My offense? Having the audacity to say "I don't share the love here" about a character on Weeds. "Boards on boards". "Tone". Oy. Of course, I objected, and suggested that Bayliss had misinterpreted my post, and the spirit in which is was intended. I got banned for "mod harrassment". That's hilarious. Of course, had I done my homework after I saw the warning, and learned what an unreasonable hard-ass he was, and that he's just a 30yr old loser,
i would have just checked the "OK" box, and left it at that. My mistake was assuming he was an adult, with an IQ higher than his age, and would be human. But, now that I know what I know, that site is the last place I want to spend any time. NO one needs to be treated that way, especially on a board about tv shows! How completely ridiculous. Had I known how precarious my precious "membership" was, I would have left a long time ago. I had NO idea how often people were getting banned for the slightest "offense". It's laughable that they can get away with this kind of crap. I think we should start a band.... The Mod Squad Banned. HA!!!

I was effing banned today, too! I have been a member for close to 8 years or so and have had no warnings until the past 6 months. Every little thing I was jumped on for. I was basically banned because I did not agree with a poster and it was considered "harassment" when I stated why I disagreed. Unbelievable.

I got banned this week. I was a longtime poster but I replied to something in a FN thread about the host and how I disagreed with criticisms of said host. I got banned for "boards on boards" and "attitude towards other users" by Strega.

It's not worth the aggrevation to make another account to post. TWoP USED to have good boards to post on, but lately it's been overrun with morons (both new posters and Mods) who like to bitch about what they DON'T like, instead of focusing on the episode or topic at hand.

Wild Roses and GothicGirlTX seem to be mini-mods in the FN threads. What they say apparently goes and gets overlooked by the Mods.

Well, my goodness; I feel better now; I got a supernasty message from a mod over there whose panties were in a mighty wad, sent a polite PM apologizing, said mod wrote back being a supercondescending asshat, and later in the day, I got a very aggressive, obscene message in my LJ, about being a coward (from Anonymous, mind you) and doing something sexual to myself with a backhoe.

Having read this, I am going to assume that was TWOP Bayliss, also known as Jacob. Bit of a relief, actually, since I was afraid someone normal had been tragically offended by me. I believe I shall be fleeing TWOP as poster, and just lurk. Pity. I did enjoy the discussions until now.
