As you know, TWoP is now owned by Bravo, who are owned by NBC... keep an eye out for any excessive kindness towards NBC shows ;)

That yellow strip across the top of all the pages looks silly and the site doesn't scale properly for larger screen resolutions. Worst of all - they got rid of the cute little pictures at the top of pages! Recapping is srs bzness now, it seems.

I quite like the idea of recapping sitcoms, but seems a bit pointless with reality tv.

Oh, I'll disagree with you on recapping of reality tv. One of the funniest things I've ever read was the recap of Amazing Race, the infamous "My ox is broken!" episode.

And the Project Runway and Top Chef recaps are good, even when I disagree with the recapper.

*nods nods* Many of my favorite recaps are reality TV... my current favorite being Top Chef.

Also, TWoP recapped quite a few reality shows before they were bought out by Bravo/NBC.

I liked most of the "American Idol" recaps, when they weren't about Tony Bennet being the root of all evil.

The only reason I go to TWoP nowadays is to read the ANTM recaps. Love Potes.

I liked their original policy about recapping comedy shows-- if they're funny, they don't need a recap to make them funny and if they're not funny, there's nothing sadder than a failed sitcom.

I agree. I didn't realise they were going to recap sitcoms. (Dramedies are good, though.)

I'm one of the die hards who remembers when they didn't have the clip art so no biggie for me. Also if you change your screen resolution to 1024X768 and the page will fit. I think most of the comedies fit more into the dramedy (well except for My Name is Earl, but I love the show so I give it a pass.)
As long as the recaps are still snarky, I'm fine.

But why should I, when there's absolutely no need if the code's written properly? That's nearly as bad as a bank website telling me to "upgrade to IE 6".

That's not bad coding, that's a system upgrade. Just like as you mentioned some websites ask you to upgrade to IE6 (or higher since they now have IE7), part of the redesign to hold all of the added content was to upgrade page width. Several solutions were posted here.

As for favoring NBC owned shows, they aren't. I did an informal breakdown of shows currently being recapped in any form. Here the tally:
ABC - 12
NBC - 8
FOX - 7
CBS - 7
CW - 5
HBO -2
BRAVO - 2
SHOWTIME - 2
SCI -FI - 1
A & E - 1
If you add the totals for Bravo & Sci-Fi that still only give NBC 11 to ABC's 12 and then to be fair you'd have to give a half point each to NBC & ABC since A&E is a joint venture between Walt Disney Co. (ABC's parent company) & NBC.

I use Opera and sometimes Firefox, so any form of IE is a downgrade and security risk, not an "upgrade". That's what I was trying to explain.

It's good to see that they understand the concept of people having different screen resolutions (I have a strangely fuzzy old monitor myself). I know how to change screen resolutions, but a well-designed site shouldn't ever have this problem. It's one of the first things taught in website design.

As for favoring NBC owned shows, they aren't That just shows how many shows they (or possibly *you* o TWOP worker) are covering. I'll have to wait a while to see if there's any undue influence within the recaps.

I used Firefox & didn't need to change my screen resolution either at home, work or on my blackberry. I actually wasn't aware that it was a problem until I read people complaining about it.

FYI, I don't now, nor have I ever worked for TWoP. I'm just a fan of the site and have been for a very long time. I joined some time after the change from MBTV.

My choice of browser has nothing to do with the screen resolution, just an analogy that went astray. :D

I take it, that is considered bad coding? Then I stand corrected. Like I said upthread, I already had my screen configured at 1024x768 so I didn't even notice the problem until someone posted about it.

You'd also have to add CW and Showtime to CBS, since they're part of same company, which brings CBS up to 14 ;)

well, to be progressive, most websites today ARE moving towards coding for 1024 x 768. It has to do with the sale and proliferation of new computers and their default resolution, and the median data there.

And there I stop, because not only am I *not* a statistician, I actively suck at it :D I just read articles by people who do know what they're talking about!
