He's kind of adorable if you incline to the view that Louis et al were more in the wrong place at the wrong time (and that he was a king who did his best but wasn't at all cut out for ruling the mess France had become, not helped by coming to the throne much too young) than were actively harmful. He certainly had courage.

...Yeah, okay, I have a soft spot for him too. I took a course on the French Revolution, in Paris, with a lecturer who was a noted expert on the subject and who made no bones about his sympathy for Louis, and yeah. Poor guy just was not suitable to be king.)
