Amazon pulls yaoi from Kindle store
Robot 6 posts this story:

Amazon pulls yaoi from Kindle store

Excerpts:

Yaoi manga is a niche genre, but like all niche genres, it has a devoted following. Yaoi readers gobble up the books like romance fans read Harlequin novels, which is not surprising as they are basically the same thing, except that yaoi 1) is manga, 2) is a love story between two men, and 3) often includes lots of sex.

**********

Recently Amazon has become more strict in enforcing their content requirements for ebooks. Several DMP books that have been available online since 2009 are getting the axe, beginning with our 801 Media titles like Weekend Lovers and King of Debt. However, in the last few days the issue has spread to the June imprint by Amazon’s refusal of The Selfish Demon King, and the removal of The Color of Love from the Kindle store.

**************

....all the reviews I checked described the book as more sweet than sexy, which raises the question: If this story had been about a man and a woman, would it have been removed from the store?

A quick search suggests that the answer is “no.” Titles currently available on Kindle include Christmas Creampie, a graphic novel in which “horny Whoreville hussies show a frustrated dildo shop owner the true meaning of Christmas,” and Little Lorna in Resort Sports (I’m not even going to link to this one), in which Little Lorna, who is spunky, sexy, but “not too bright,” goes on vacation to Mexico with her Uncle Bob; “nudity, spanking, and sexy humor” result.

So apparently a sweet love story between two men is unacceptable, but an orgy in a dildo shop is OK.

So, am I remembering right that this is the third instance of homophobia at Amazon.com?

Fuck, and I just made another big purchase there. Fuck you, Amazon.com.

Also, Amazon.com straight up sells dildos. And BDSM gear. And hate speech.

3) often includes lots of sex

And romance novels don't?

Also wow there is a strain of anti-kink/anti-sex in this whole thing. What's wrong with a story about "an orgy in a dildo shop"? Obviously it's good to point out that Amazon is being colossally hypocritical and homophobic in not allowing yaoi, but the tone people are taking about the sexual things they do allow is really grossing me out.

This is incredibly disgusting. I'm a true and devoted Kindle lover, but I'm not going to be making any purchases from the Kindle store (or Amazon at all) in the near future until this is clarified and reverses.

Goddamnit Amazon. Given their reactions to past blow ups over content, I suspect they make walk this back. But I'm awfully sick of them having to DO THAT IN THE FIRST DAMNED PLACE.

If you use Amazon and would like to give feedback on this, be sure to use this page to get in contact with them. You can email, call, or chat with someone from there.

Just last night, from Amazon's very own list of the top 100 free kindle books, I downloaded one called A Little Harmless Sex. It's pure smut with a sassy, forthright woman who's not afraid to be sexual. It doesn't even pretend to be anything else. So yeah, I'm going with the whole homophobia on Amazon's part thing.

Hmm, well, anyone know if Barnes and Noble has a similar policy? At some point I'm going to invest in a ebook reader, and I want to know who to avoid. I'm thinking either the Nook or Sony's EReader, but I'm not fond of Sony's DRM issues...

I don't personally care about yaoi being available on my Kindle because I'm not a fan, but I thought I'd give somebody in the customer service department a hard time about it anyway. I explained my concerns to the first rep, then got transferred and had to start over. But this is how the chat wrapped up (c/p'ed with names changed):

Me: Would Amazon Digital Services have pulled them if they violated some part of the content requirements or something?

AMAZON CUSTOMER SERVICE: Yes, there are numerous reason as to why it could have been pulled

AMAZON CUSTOMER SERVICE: I'm so sorry, but we can't offer any additional insight or action on this matter.

Me: Do you know anyone that could?

AMAZON CUSTOMER SERVICE: We are not given any other information on the matter. I'm sorry.

So emailing the Kindle department is probably the best bet in this case. I wonder if I'd get the same response if I tried again tomorrow.

I mostly use my Kindle to do some quick browsing on the internet since I don't have internet access at my apartment. Regardless, this pisses me the fuck off. I will definitely be emailing the Kindle department about this.

This is why I've never been interested in getting an ebook reading device other than my iPod Touch. I don't like letting any one company have too much control over my content (and I even hate Apple for how restrictive they are). :/ The days of the wild free internet are definitely drawing to a close.

*goes to look at Amazon's content requirements*

"You must ensure that all Digital Book content is in compliance with our Program Policies for content at the time you submit it to us." Okay, and these are...?

"Pornography
Pornography and hard-core material that depicts graphic sexual acts."

This one is presumably what they're using to justify pulling the yaoi, although given what else they're apparently selling I'm a little puzzled as to why they have this clause in there to begin with. But there's also...

"Offensive Material
What we deem offensive is probably about what you would expect. Amazon Digital Services, Inc. reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of Titles sold on our site."

"Probably about what you would expect." Amazon, at this point I don't think you want to know what we expect you deem offensive.

You can't search for Kindle books under the "Gay and Lesbian" category, either, though you can for paper books.

I'd do screen caps, but I'm lazy.

Nook search for 'gay and lesbian'

'yaoi'

'gay romance'

'lesbian romance'

I could go on. All easily searchable. When I actually have money it looks like I'm getting a Nook.

Hm, interesting. The link for Christmas Creampie doesn't seem to work now, and when I try searching for it in the Kindle store, it doesn't show up. (Though Lick Her Anal Creampie [with warnings for "anal sex/intercourse/orgasm/sexual/erotica/erotic/xxx/spanking"] does.)

Little Lorna in Resort Sports still shows up when you search the Kindle store, however.

Home cleaning is a really tough job that almost every housewife should do no matter if she wants it or not. Keeping a home clean and neat can be eased only in two ways - first is by trying old-fashioned, but really effective, house cleaning tips learned from mothers and grandmothers. The second option is hiring professional cleaners Acton. Professional cleaners have the training and experience required to provide a perfectly clean home. The only negative thing here can be the money spend on the fees.

Cleanness is not an abstract notion. When something is clean, it has no grime, no stains on and smells fresh. Anything else can be regarded as dirty. Your home is dirty when it hasn’t been cleaned for weeks and months. Some deep cleaning and carpet cleaning is all that you should do now. Rely on garden clearance London to make your yard a dream garden.

Great post !
As most of you have probably heard, green cleaning became very popular in the past few years. You can make most of your cleaning products from your household products. They are eco-friendly, they do not have any chemicals and last but not least they are much cheaper. So why not make it easier and healthier for us and our family?
