One word: Hetalia.
A warning beforehand: This wank is a desert landscape of triggers.

Oh, my god.

Oh, my god.

Oh, my fucking god.

Translation: User palereverie posts in hetalia_wank, victim-blaming, trolling, and generally spewing massive, triggery bile all over the place. Massive wank occurs. Palereverie is banned for their conduct by mod kiokushitakaa ... for two weeks, because there's a three strikes rule, and everyone deserves a second chance! Response is so negative kiokushitakaa steps down as mod, but not before issuing a Heidipology to end Heidipologies.

ETA: "All the times I insulted you? Don't take it personally. I don't even know who most of you are. Even if you logged in, I still don't know who you are. It's not a personal attack. I was just being cynical and/or my own perception of humorous. I do not notice when things shift in atmosphere at all, and hadn't realized that the conversation had turned serious. I thought it was still just trolling around, so I continued."

palereveries is permabanned.

Pantsu volunteers to mod.

However, miezen's insistence that being Hetalia fan is like being a victim of Islamophobia is far, far worse.

I read that as a comparison of bad logic (that is, faulty syllogisms were the issue in each case), not as a comparison of Hetalia and Islamophobia. I've no knowledge of the poster or the fandom, but it's not unusual to bring in another example of faulty syllogism without meaning to compare the two situations. It's the particular logical flaw, not the heinousness of the situation, that's being compared. I do, however, see a lot of "are you really comparing this to that?" cries when people do this online, which suggests that most fen don't understand this kind of comparison.

The other option being that we understand it perfectly well and we think that it's ridiculous*. Your ship not being canon is not racism, nor does it resemble racism in any way shape or form, and someone judging you on the internet for liking an offensive comic is not Islamophobia, nor does it resemble Islamophobia in any way shape or form. Not to mention that miezen is also wrong about the type of faulty logic happening. For her comparison to work, people would have to be saying, "Some Hetalia fans are horrible, therefore all Hetalia fans are horrible." What people were actually saying was "Hetalia fans like an icky comic, therefore Hetalia fans are icky." In other words, her use of an actual social issue doesn't do anything for her argument, but it sure does do a good job of making it look like Hetalia fans are victims of some injustice. Well, it would if anybody were actually buying it.

*It will be a beautiful day when the response to "This is nonsensical" isn't "You don't understand!" I understand. I understand that it's nonsensical.
