So, on Wednesday -- five days after Tyler Clementi's suicide after he was outed by a college roommate -- rapper 50 Cent posted the following on his Twitter feed:

“If you a man and your over 25 and you don’t eat pu**y just kill your self damn it. The world will be a better place. Lol.”

He doesn't seem to quite get why this may have been an objectionable comment.

Weird. It reads more like a "(straight) men with hangups about cunnilingus: Get over it" joke more than anything.

I know there's an unfortunate-to-say-the-least history with 50 Cent remarks, but the article doesn't mention that possibility at all — even to go into detail why that reading would be wrong and discredit it — and they have much more room for explanations and nuance than a 140-character tweet.

Titling it "50 Cent Tells Gays To Commit Suicide" seems misleading. But then, to be fair, how many clicks would "50 Cent Makes Poorly Timed Heteronormative Tweet" generate?

The joke was obviously about oral sex and just happened to be heteronormative, but his responses to it were fairly crappy and awkward.

I know people want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but FUCK HIM for not apologizing when it was pointed out how it could be read, especially in the light of all the suicides of young gay men. Gay people don't count enough for him not to make the heterosexist comment in the first place, and they don't count enough for him to apologize when he (however inadvertently) rubs salt in our wounds. If he wasn't ridiculously self-centered and homophobic, he would be feeling like utter shit for the misunderstanding.

Not to mention: Making light of suicide really isn't cool.

*jumps up and down, pointing at your comment* I have a friend, who, while usually pretty decent about being an ally, SUCKS when 'It's obvious he didn't mean it like *that*, so it's no big deal!' and 'No one's perfect, since he wasn't actually attacking you, cut him some slack!'

I fuck up too. I say things that sometimes are hurtful when I certainly didn't intend it to be. And I own that when someone tells me what I'm doing and apologize and am not an asshole about it. >.<

(Sorry for the rant, I'm more upset about my friend than I thought, and just had a conversation with him about something very similar to this situation).

It's twitter. You can't really expect people on twitter to care much about grammar or spelling with the character limit.

It's like he thinks saying "lol" at the end of his sentences make things automatically funny for everyone else.

Yes, 50 Cent, because telling anyone to kill themselves because of anything to do with sex = a perfectly okay thing to do. Because men who don't like to give women oral sex are worthless people that no one will ever miss, not even their families.

From what I can decipher from his tweets (got bored, went to check) - It looks like the verdict is idiot, not hater. After bafflement on his part as to why his statement was taken as homophobic someone (who he noticed) pointed out about the recent suicides. Which he apparently hadn't even heard of until then.

Again, this is from what I can decipher. I need a goddamn Rosetta stone here.
