So, on Wednesday -- five days after Tyler Clementi's suicide after he was outed by a college roommate -- rapper 50 Cent posted the following on his Twitter feed:

“If you a man and your over 25 and you don’t eat pu**y just kill your self damn it. The world will be a better place. Lol.”

He doesn't seem to quite get why this may have been an objectionable comment.

I know people want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but FUCK HIM for not apologizing when it was pointed out how it could be read, especially in the light of all the suicides of young gay men. Gay people don't count enough for him not to make the heterosexist comment in the first place, and they don't count enough for him to apologize when he (however inadvertently) rubs salt in our wounds. If he wasn't ridiculously self-centered and homophobic, he would be feeling like utter shit for the misunderstanding.

Not to mention: Making light of suicide really isn't cool.

*jumps up and down, pointing at your comment* I have a friend, who, while usually pretty decent about being an ally, SUCKS when 'It's obvious he didn't mean it like *that*, so it's no big deal!' and 'No one's perfect, since he wasn't actually attacking you, cut him some slack!'

I fuck up too. I say things that sometimes are hurtful when I certainly didn't intend it to be. And I own that when someone tells me what I'm doing and apologize and am not an asshole about it. >.<

(Sorry for the rant, I'm more upset about my friend than I thought, and just had a conversation with him about something very similar to this situation).
