Unfortunately my posting this outs me as a watcher of Daytime Soap Operas. But this was too rage inducing to keep quiet.

So the other day I posted in the Days of Our Lives LJ comm that they've announced an impending gay storyline.

Everyone in the comm seems happy or at least they don't care because really, this shouldn't be news right?

Musiclover84 however is not happy and he posts in my post, but I thought nothing of it. He has since deleted his post but hey, Gmail is like a Sarrlacc and deletes things slowly.

Gays of Our Lives? No thanks.

Seems like the gay lifestyle has taken over all tv shows and movies. It's always the same thing too. Gay guy/gal keeps homosexual feelings a secret then eventually find out that hey, it's okay to be gay! *Gag*

Anyway, I've been in this group a long time (been watching Days for nearly 20 years) and this is the end for me. Take care everyone!

So today, I go to the comm and see a mod post.

Hi All,

I haven't needed to moderate this community in years due to people's ability to be respectful and polite. However, it seems people are overreacting to the news of the upcoming gay storyline. Please remember, you are entitled to express your opinions as long as it doesn't offend other people and some these posts are going over the top. Please keep the criticism of the show in the bounds of good taste.

Musiclover returns.

Scrolling back in the comm I see that people are expressing their enthusiasm about the new plot but of course, Musiclover breaks in to pee on everyone's good time.

Oh BS, like you really want to watch a show that takes away from the couples that have been around forever. I am offended that you are okay with taking this show in a direction away from it's 45 year consistency. Some of us have been watching this for a long duration of that time and the fact that newer viewers are coming through here & trying to ruin this show, greatly offends me.

Riiiiight, because Will and Gabby and Abby and Chad have been couples forever. *Rolls eyes*

Admittedly I haven't watched soap operas in well, years... but isn't half the fun of watching soap operas the fact that the couples are always changing so you never know who's going to end up with who and when and how?

Exactly. Another bitter OLTL fan here and he should be happy Days is going to remain on the air, unlike other soaps. And that the show is taking the steps necessary to stick around. Including a (gasp) gay storyline.

I've been watching Days off and on since the early '90s and most recently, I started watching because of Carly and Vivian returning. Then I stuck around for Maggie and Victor. And the magic that is Chill. So a gay storyline is a pleasant surprise/reason to watch more of the show.

Please do yourself a favor and avoid the soap.sheknows Days board. You've got "YAY, EJ's fine self not taking crap from women! Sami and Nicole are sluts that deserve to be raped and abused!" and "Will's totally not gay and a gay story line would be unnecessary on the show because look how it turned out for Lucas on General Hospital" groups that make you want stab your eyes out in relief of the ick. (Please note: coming out didn't do a damn thing for Bianca except add a fact when I was watching, but that was side stepped.) I'm almost immune now thanks to that board and I was only there for a couple months. I know I yelled at the people on the board, either OLTL or Days, for being misogynistic snotweasels.

I'm personally just thrilled the last head writer was fired after she made a famous opera singer into a blackmailed call girl.

As mentioned, I'm watching OLTL on Soapnet and I'm so mad my show is getting booted. *pinches David Vickers's cheeks*

Also? That 45 year of consistency? Tell that to John Black, why don't you? He changed more families than Sami was engaged.

Speaking of John Black, who was believed for years to be Roman Brady until Roman Braady came back and said "uh, no, I'm me," consistency means that the current Roman Brady is really Chris Kositchek. I'm sorry, but recasting a main character with an actor who previously played another role for years is weird. Whenever I see it in passing (I watched in college, my mom will occasionally cruise past the rerun on SoapNet) I'm always like "Chrisman Braditchek!"

Where is Musiclover84 to protest that travesty?

I realize that the homophobia is the truly shitty part here, but I could also live without hearing people bitch about "new fans" ruining their fan experience.

Especially with a show that is probably not going to be on the air anymore if it doesn't get new fans.

And I wish my mom was still alive, she'd be thrilled to see gay storylines in soaps. Miss you, mom.

Never was a big fan of any soaps, but if the speeds of storylines run to course, it should be between two to four years before Musiclover will have to worry about seeing any icky!gai!sex on his/her TV.
