I'm involved in fandoms--pulp and Old-Time Radio--where I'm a Dadgum Kid On The Lawn at fifty; neither medium is even a category on Fanfiction.net. If you don't want your fandoms to die of old age with you--and I've heard of folks who actively want that sort of cultural suttee-- there's nothing for it but to admit the New Kids and the inevitably different perspective they'll bring to the canon.
