Heartbreak & Heroines
Kynn created a RPG called Heartbreak & Heroines, and used Kickstarter to get $3000 in funding in 48 hours. Over on LJ, Jack posted his response to his ex's success, in two minds because he's glad someone he knows did something cool, Kynn raped him. A couple days later, alexandraerin posts as well, expressing dismay at Kynn's behavior.

Jack posts Tweets from Kynn and later, emails,. At some point, the Kickstart for the RPG is canceled.

Some responses are laudable. Others, not so much.

ETA: Kynn tried to get a new name on RPG post-ban.

ETA2: Elf has a post about it.

ETA3: Kynn denies the rape happened.

I think that is the problem.

Jack is stating that he was raped by Kynn. There are two statements there: He was raped, and Kynn is a rapist.

So if you're saying "I'm not saying Kynn is a rapist", then you're saying that you don't believe what Jack said.

Unfortunately, while it seems simple, sometimes it really isn't. What happened with my sister is that they believed she had been raped, but the evidence as to who had raped her was considered circumstantial so they could not say without question which of the people who were brought up had done it. Which, you know, is not helpful to the person who was raped knowing that the person who had done it is still walking around free. At least the restraining order is working.

It seems more clear to me in this case, and the whole thing makes me feel sick to think about, but I can sort-of see why people can make those two statements separate.

But that's a very different situation. I'm sorry for what your sister went through but it's different circumstances.

Jack didn't say "I was raped" and people start pointing fingers at Kynn. He said specifically that Kynn raped him. Therefore to say Kynn is not a rapist is to say that Jack is lying.

Actually, my sister said the exact same thing about her accuser, and it had to go to court to have the same result.

I feel like I'm misunderstanding here - what accuser, and exact same thing as what? (There are a lot of statements in my comment, I'm not sure which one is the "exact same thing".)

Sorry, I'm just... not thinking this through. I'm thinking of what happened with my sister. She stated very clearly who her rapist was. Her rapist and his defense contended that it was someone else, and without the immediate proof, since the abuse had happened over a lengthy period of time, the verdict was that it could have been any of the people the rapist accused or the rapist itself and they had no clear evidence supporting it either way. So it wasn't that they were saying she hadn't been raped, just that she was wrong about her rapist. I have no doubt someone who is capable of weaseling out of a rape accusation saying things like 'I didn't know' when the person clearly told them to stop is equally capable of diverting the attention elsewhere.

It's possible I'm just projecting, the whole thing was very hurtful for my whole family.

I think I see where you're coming from now (It was the "her accuser" bit that threw me too, because I was thinking "But isn't she the one doing the accusing?") Not sure I agree 100% because I think this is a slightly different situation, but I can't put my finger on why, so I should probably leave it there.

I'm sorry this is so painful for you. It's dragging stuff up for a lot of people. (Self-included. No big trauma, but self-proclaimed feminists who don't know what the word "No" means are sadly not all that rare.)

Ah, I figured that's what it was (and I agree that that's obnoxious), but so many people were praising them in the comments that I figured I must be wrong.

Yeah, it seems to me a mealy-mouthed response.
