Neo_prodigy silences a feminist critic
Over at LJ's inclusive_geeks community, korinna posts about neo_prodigy's misogyny, not only in his personal posts, but in his How To Write Slash posts and his published novel. She includes a large document of examples of his misogyny from the latter. Tee document can be downloaded here.

Why do you have to download it?

Because neo_prodigy responded like all good professionals to criticism and had LJ suspend the post, and when it was transferred to Wordpress, had that suspended as well..

Man. Okay, anecdote time.

I was looking for the moderator of a gaming community to ask if she wanted to merge with another (trying to be helpful) and I found her journal! And I looked! The top post started out with 'do not non-consensually debate with me' and then became a two page scroll of 'do not do these isms at me!'. Which, you know, okay, it's your journal.

Next post: Praising the hell out of Neo_Prodigy.

I decided it was best to just back away and go play a videogame instead.

"Do not non-consensually debate with me"?

Does that mean "Don't disagree with me"?

I'm not too sure.

It might mean "don't pull that 'devil's advocate' shit here"? I think you may be right, though. That's certainly how I read it at first.

It just rubs me the wrong way. "Non-consensual" is a pretty loaded term, and to use it in the context of a debate (which, as opposed to an attack or even an argument, is a healthy thing!) sets my teeth on edge.

Yeah, that's pretty gross.

I think it means "ask me first if I want to debate before starting an argument with me". That's the only interpretation that makes sense to me.

It's the most charitable one, too. But to me, it sounds like he's trying to pre-emptively shut down anyone who wants to call him out.

She. Beyond that, I agree with the grossness of that term.

Oops, I got her confused with neo_prodigy for a moment there. But yeah.

IDK what she means, but I can relate to the phrase of it and was tempted for a while some time ago to try to figure out some way of saying more or less the same thing on my journal and couldn't figure out how to word it so that people wouldn't think it meant "don't disagree with me", so I just gave up.

I wrote a very personal, flocked post about my experiences of fatphobia and ableism and how I felt about it, and a friend posted "I don't think you're fat at all". Dude, I'm a size 24. And then he said something to the effect of "well, I was just going off the last time I saw you, maybe you've gotten fatter since then" (I was a size 20 when I last saw him, so still fat) and then started saying why he disagrees with fat acceptance and thinks fat men get it just as bad as fat women. I was pissed and I was hurt but I swallowed it and tried to explain to him why his posts were upsetting, and he went away angry that I wouldn't cite scientific sources about fat acceptance and debate with him. Y'know, maybe a personal post about having dealt with oppression isn't the place to start that shit, especially when your opener is to deny part of my identity.

Up until that point, locked posts on my own journal were my safe space, and I really did feel like he was "non-consentually debating" with me because he put me in a position where if I didn't defend what I believed in with proper debate, what I said was not to be taken seriously. I didn't want a debate there, I'm not really open to debating there especially if pushed into a corner and forced into it, I don't have the spoons for it especially on a post where I'm putting my vulnerability out there. I do feel that some things I post about should either be accepted by commenters or they should take their ball and go somewhere else because I'm not going to sit there and debate whether privilege of various kinds exists. And I can't come up with a way of saying that that wouldn't read like what n_p's friend up there did.

May I suggest: "Don't be a dick at me"

Wow, that kinda sucks that he'd do that in your safe space, but I agree with [info]sepiamagpie: something along the lines of "Don't be a jerk"?

"This post is not up for debate"?

I like that, and I'll remember that.

Don't be a jerk relies on people to realize that's jerk behavior. "Not up for debate" cuts that crap off at the beginning.
