Vintage Marilyn Manson Wank: Over a Decade in the Making
Posted here instead of [info]fandom_wank, because of (among other things) racist "jokes", Nazis, threats of violence, and a skeevy rape analogy.

A long time ago, there was a band called Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids, made up of Marilyn Manson on vocals, Gidget Gein on bass, Daisy Berkowitz on guitar, Madonna "Pogo" Wayne Gacy on keyboards and Sara Lee Lucas on drums. All was (reasonably) well in Spooky Kid land until they actually got signed.

First, there were numerous lineup changes: since 1989, the band has gone through sixteen guitarists, bassists, keyboardists and drummers. Furthermore, following their departures/firing, Gidget Gein and Daisy Berkowitz both sued Marilyn Manson (the band and its managers) for failure to pay royalties. Between the two of them, Gidget and Daisy had written 99.9% of the music for the band's debut album, "Portrait of an American Family." Furthermore, Daisy stayed on long enough to write some of the music for the EP, "Smells Like Children" (1995) and the band's second album, "Antichrist Superstar" (1996) before he claimed that he was "forced out."

In the end, Manson settled out of court with both Gidget and Daisy around 1999 and it seemed like life went on, to a degree. Manson and Daisy still seemed to hate each other with the fire of ten thousand suns, but little came of it. Marilyn Manson members kept coming and going as usual with varying degrees of bitterness afterwards, but none filed lawsuits upon their departures.

At least until August of 2007. That was when the keyboardist, Pogo, left the band and sued Manson and his business managers for failure to pay "partnership proceeds."

According to Pogo, in 1993, Manson and his Spooky Kids had entered a partnership agreement where "all profits (and losses) from the group's album releases, tours and merch sales were shared in various proportions." Rather than honor this agreement, Manson had apparently decided it would be easier to force the original Spooky Kids out and replace them.

The suit also claimed that Manson had been treating the band's money as his own personal bank account to pay for such things as:

• Nazi artifacts (SS typewriters, swastika wall tiles, Nazi government coat hangers owned by Adolf Hitler, and a handbag that belonged to Eva Braun)
• Cocaine and Vicodin
• Drug addiction treatment
• Production of the film "Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll"
• Taxidermy models of animals, including a California grizzly and two baboons
• The skeleton of a 17th-century male in a wheelchair
• African masks made of human skin
• The skeleton of a 4-year-old Chinese girl.
• An engagement ring and lavish wedding in Ireland
• Paying off a film company so they would remove home video footage of a young Mr. Manson making racist comments while feeding his pet snake

I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

In response, Manson countersued for breach of contract claiming that Pogo had "shown up late to band recordings and promotional appearances and gave confidential band information to the media."

While lawyers battled it out in court, in December of 2009, Manson took the fight to MySpace, posting two entries (1, 2) denouncing Pogo to the fans at large:
thieves, rapists and traitors
I want to make clear that, aside from the wasted legal fees, in no way did I pay off the person that stood behind a keyboard--pretending to play music other artists in this band wrote. And I would not piss on Pogo if he was on fire. Thee end. Or is it? Let's wait until all the really bad things I covered up for him are suddenly uncovered. I got a far more severe type of karma for traitors and people that owe me, legally alot more than what I wasted tolerating your rape of a band you never deserved to be in. M

. . .

And I Don't Want This To Be Confused as Anger
I feel nothing for a person that betrayed me and my band. My band. And I'm sure that if anyone wants to discuss this with him personally, I won't be so rude to NOT give you his or his family's addresses. Since I payed for both soon to be destroyed buildings. That's at least what I just had a dream of, that I awoke from. So good luck to you sir. You are gonna need it Sweet dreams M

That August, he had also used MySpace to insult and threaten Daisy:
Not letting you win a lawsuit won't satisfy me... I'm going to teach you about loss. And I mean the parasites, that have chosen to spew their 'story' after ....
This particular quote was probably in reference to Daisy's article in
a Florida newspaper that attacked Manson had for supposedly betraying his fans and forgetting his roots.

As far as I know, neither Pogo nor Daisy ever responded publicly. In the end, Pogo and Manson reached a settlement at the end of 2009, but the terms were not disclosed.

The video made of one of their earlier tours had a band member shitting on the floor, spearing the turd with a fork and then chasing people with it.

It's like someone paid a bunch of twelve-year olds to "act scary and also funny."

Or something.

It was when I was watching that documentary that I concluded that while the music was okay, I would never be a huge fan of the band.

Honestly. He is not scary and edgy, he is twelve. I kind of want to pinch his cheeks and invite him in for milk and cookies. He's just trying so hard, the poor dear.

There's been illegal trade in Asia for skeletons since the 1970's. As far as I know, it was legal before that. You can still get skeletons through legal channels, but those are difficult to obtain. There was one of a 12 or 16 year-old Indian male at my school, but it was OLD and practically falling apart. It was school property and none of the teachers knew how it had been obtained.

You expected better of him?

The first one I don't find creepy. The Nazi stuff is far creepier for me. I hope the latter two are antiques because it makes me feel slightly less disturbed.

I can't find the nazi stuff creepy. Not from the guy who's deliberately appropriating nazi imagery to shock. It comes off as trying too hard.

That's the thing, though - given his behaviour when off-persona I still can't take him more seriously than a 12-year old showing off his snot to gross girls out.

I have nothing to add other than I feel like by 2009 MySpace was already a little out dated.

Of course, in light of today's launch of Facebook's 8 billionth redesign I'm feeling a little nostalgic for all the social media that was.

All these years, and all those moral guardians trying to discredit the man from the obvious angle, instead of digging a bit more. Go figure!

Note, however, that I'm not a fan of Manson, I don't particularly like his music (I have only listen to "the beautiful people", and I'm not sure if anglo stations still play his music here), and I put him in the Tyson Zone. This kinda confirm the latter point.

Kinda old this wank, judging by dates, but it says something that the creepiest part of all isn't the extravagant and strange collection of human remains.

Part of me feels sort of vindicated that my gut feeling Manson was a total douchebag was completely founded, especially considering my favorite all-ages goth club in high school was completely ruined by ~edgy~ Spooky Kids, to the point where it ended up collapsing because all the actual goth kids were chased away, and the Spooky Kids never supported the scene that kept the place afloat. (Not that I'm still bitter nearly 10 years later, or anything.)

But that's totally getting overwhelmed by my need to cactuar face. Yeah, I think I'll go with cactuar face.

My first boyfriend thought Marilyn Manson was practically perfect in every way. I've leaned toward the "he's a creepy poseur douche with nothing real to say so he just tries to shock people" side since I broke up with said boyfriend. What really shocks me is that this guy's still doing the same schtick fifteen years later.

On top of that, I feel old. I remember when most of those albums were new.

And covered Patti Smith's "Rock and Roll Nigger" for the evident sheer sake of using the N-word.

(Smith was applying the word metaphorically, in the sense of "outcast", to herself [see also Yoko Ono and John Lennon's "Woman is the Nigger of the World"]; whether this is something that people who aren't themselves black--which is to say, people who have self-applied the label and can doff it at will--ought to be doing is a whole 'nother kettle of debate.)

Teenage Mansonite me totally saw this coming. I swear Manson's going to be 70 years old and still trying to be culturally relevant while treating people like crap and having legal battles with everyone when they finally get sick of it.

I remember almost coming to blows with one of my friends when we were sixteen because he took offense to the fact that I thought Manson was a jerk who happened to make some music I liked, rather than a perfect god and hero like he thought. Oy. Teenage arguments, such srs bsns.

I've never paid all that much attention to Marilyn Manson, but any accidental exposure to his work I had always left a bad taste in my mouth (well that and all the kids back at my high school who were fans of his were without exception irritating individuals).

Now I can see my instincts were in no way erroneous - he really is an infantile jackass.

At any rate, I've never met anyone who had a preoccupation with nazis who was emotionally sound...

2012 is the year when living green will gain even more popularity. More and more people will start caring about their planet, reducing harsh emissions and using less harmful products. This includes home cleaning products as well. Green cleaning of your home is already a fact, all you have to do is to involve it in your life. Cleaners Kensington recommend you make your own cleaning products using natural ingredients, such as baking soda, vinegar, lemons, salt, water and so on. If you are used to professional cleaning services, then you can rely on cleaners Clapham, who use eco-friendly cleaning products and equipment.

Even the experts from end of tenancy cleaning Notting Hill admit that the bleach is considered as one of the most effective cleaners, but this isn't always the case. It is true that the bleach can be very effective against certain kinds of grime, mainly stains, carpet or others, but this cleaner isn't very effective against the dirt and filth in the general cleaning. End of tenancy cleaning Maida Vale experts claim that if you want to clean something with bleach you can't apply bleach alone. It should be combined with water and soap in order to be clean some forms of grime.
