But reading what he actually has to say it just sounds awful, like "It's OK to be gay only if you are flamboyant and you don't otherwise talk about it."

Yeah, with its attendant "I need a visual marker for gay people, for early warning and avoidance purposes. STAY OVER THERE" overtones. Ugh.
