I'm down with most of them (actually, I really like that Doctor Strange), but as I've said in other places, it bugs the utter crap out of me that people constantly pick on Ms. Marvel when it comes to these redesigns. In a metatextual way, is it an unfortunate costume? Yes, especially when certain artists insist on drawing the cut of the legholes as up to her waist. However, this right here: "It’s just so tacky, and tells us nothing about the character." Is dead wrong. Carol and her friend Wasp designed that costume together. It was a bonding experience. A confidence experience. Carol likes that costume because it was something she helped make, something she had decisions in, rather than something that was handed down to her by a higher power like her original Kree uniform was. The fact that this isn't well-known outside of Carol fans is a fault of the writers, true, but considering Diaz is acting like he's all well-researched in this, he should know it. Do I like Ms. Marvel redesigns? Hell yes! Most of them are really awesome! But I wish people would stop being dismissive of the character's actual feelings about the costume in question, and then claim that they're doing right by the character. I mean, it's not like Carol hasn't had to put up with that kind of shit from the canon writers for years or anything, can fandom not do it too? </feelingspew> Post a comment in response: |
