Now I really feel bad about being skeeved out by Starblade. Why? He was pretty abusive and inappropriate in a lot of online interactions; his having been the victim of murder, completely tragic as that is for his family and friends, doesn't mean that he didn't do some inappropriate and hurtful things to others while he was alive. I wouldn't feel guilty in retrospect about reactions to things he did or said, even though you have sympathy about his sudden death. I mean, there's a huge difference between "I'm glad this asshole is dead" gloating like the stuff pointed to here, which I agree is heartless in the extreme, and "I'm sorry to hear this person is dead, regardless of how I felt about his actions when he was alive." The former, in my opinion, is being an asshole; the latter, in my opinion, is being realistic. Post a comment in response: |
