Honestly, I loathe plot twists like that, and dropped the series like hot coal.
But it's not the end of the world. It's just a TV series I don't care for anymore. No reason to use brain cancer in bashing (not to mention the misogyny they keep using in general, as you say - it's telling that they aren't for Ianto, but against Gwen).
As if Gwen embodied all that's wrong somehow.
