Stay classy, AGA!
(Warning: this wank may require an immediate infusion of baby animals wearing people clothes. This is small but virulent. Thanks to the wank_report nonnys.)

Torchwood fans have been wondering why there hasn't been any news on a new season; theories ranged from the partnership between Starz and BBC falling through to writer to producer Russell T. Davies shifting his attention to a new series entirely. Even the actors didn't seem to know what was going on.

Yesterday the story broke about why the season has been delayed, and it's for one of the worst possible reasons: RTD's partner has been diagnosed with brain cancer and he's taking time off to take care of him.

The Anti-Gwen Alliance (you may remember them from such wanks as "let's wear character bashing shirts to a con the actress playing the character is attending!" (original post now gone; wank report here, pretty wanky on its own, partial screencap here, because the internet never forgets) handles the news with their usual grace and tact.

Some, um..."highlights:"

I'm sorry for the poor guy who has cancer (and the misfortune to love RTD) but this can't be the reason why Starz does not continue.

I feel for anyone in the other guys position, especially as he now appears to be having to be nursed by Toad of Toad Hall, but I feel NO sympathy, whatsoever, for RTD. He is clutching at straws- no-one has picked up on his god awful "cucumber" thing so he needs an excuse to get back over here and mess with our TV again. I just hope to god that the BBC has the sense to barricade the doors and pretend they aren't home when he calls.....

And once again somebody else gets blamed for RTDs fail. No fans to blame left Crusty? The terrible boyfriend needs to step in as the goat? That's low.

I'm going to go write some fluff now. Or look at puppies. Maybe write about my OTP playing with puppies.

I know nothing about this show, but wow.

He is a heartless, talentless git. Looking after your other half is what you should do, it earns no brownie points form me and does nothing to change my opinion of his ability.
Time alone will tell if it can possibly change my opinion of him as a person, and whether or not the experience will change him as a person.

Wow. So is this like, 'RTD, what have you learned from this experience [where your SO has brain cancer and could potentially die]? Have you learned to be a better TV show producer now?'

Oh good I wasn't the only one side eyeing those comments, it's like they are implying that RTD isn't looking after his partner because he loves his partner and that is where he wants to be and needs to be.

No, he's really a heartless monster whose only looking after his partner because it's what he should be doing and not because its something he wants to do and give priority too, implying that he'd rather be working on his show than looking after a loved one.

But I guess admiting that he's there because he's a caring partner and wants whats best for him would make him...you know A DECENT HUMAN BEING and well they can't have THAT, I mean how can you hate a decent human being...no no better to paint him as a sub human monster.

I hope the person who said that never finds themselves in RTD's position.

They have no fucking idea how hard it is on someone to be a caretaker, particularly when you're watching the person you love go through pain. And the person being taken care of will have days when they're impossible to live with, because they're all out of spoons and dropped something and this just reminded them of how clumsy they are now and they can't do anything on their own and DON'T COME NEAR ME I HATE EVERYTHING WHY ARE YOU AVOIDING ME DON'T YOU LOVE ME ANYMORE I'M HOPELESS AND PATHETIC NO ONE COULD LOVE ME. And the caretaker understands, but that doesn't make it hurt any less.

This is so true.

What especially gets to me is that not only are they totally offensively wrong, he doesn't owe them anything. He doesn't owe anyone a TV show and he definitely doesn't owe fans who hate him and the show. Yet they seem to insist that he's taking care of his partner to get out of some contract with them. I don't even get it.

I just looked at the original full comment, not something for the faint of heart or easily enranged..the poster claims to 'have lost half their family' to cancer and has Sympathy for the BF...but not for RTD.

Can I scream at them that Cancer (or any other terminal illness for that matter) doesn't JUST effect the person with the Cancer? That the whole family unit is effected to...cuz...DAMN that's cold.
