Fanfusion is naughty
This is more of a signal boost than anything.
Never ever host fansites on Fanfusion

A tawdry tale of socks and harassment and spam and Domain names held hostage.

ETA: This isn't the first time, and Toya herself speaks up
Thanks to an anon on Wank Report, [info]pfeffermuse and [info]octavia for the tip.

Holy shit!

The sad thing is, I've seen other web-based companies do similar things. What the heck is wrong with these people?

That was a lesson in cognitive dissonance. I would be reading the post and getting angry about the way these people were being treated, but then I would get a glimpse of pretty, pretty Ben Barnes in the sidebar and feel all fluttery and happy.

But seriously, are the owners of Fanfusion 12 years old? It's really the only explanation I can come up with for why they think this behavior is okay.

I read the description in the OP and wondered how bad it would have to be to get posted in uf_f and not f_w. Now I know (and kinda wish I didn't, because WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THEM?!)

"Nothing has changed, it just means that the site would be hosted here forever"
Right, nothing's changed, it just means they want to grab your domain and hold it hostage if you ever want to change web-hosts. Parking a site in their domain with identifying information and the following campaign is horrifying. Legitimate webhosts a) would not do that and b) would not have the time to do that because they're to busy actually doing serious business.

I recommend buying a domain from Namecheap (their CEO doesn't hunt elephants and they don't create any other drama I know of), and then getting some free hosting from www.000webhost.com/ Their free service is pretty good, so they're worth looking into also for paid hosting.

Can I just say that a lot of their campaign seems really incomprehensible and weird?

I was going to compare this to the impossibility of getting a wiki off of Wikia, but those screencaps... damn. That's taking things to a whole new (disgusting) level.

Bloody hell.

I went out of curiosity to the Fanfusion website. MY EYES. It's a brightly-coloured, painfully twee design.

They have an "adopt a website" section which I can only think must be the websites they kept of people who either abandoned them or wanted to shut them down but weren't prevented.

Whoever's running that thing is NOT a professional, which makes that harassment campaign only slightly less batshit than if it were a professional company.

*were prevented.

Typing fail.

Actually, that whole sentence is fail.

They have an "adopt a website" section, which I can only think must be composed of the websites that were either abandoned, or the original owners wished to shut down but were prevented from doing so by Fanfusion.

Slightly better.

The worst part is that they have a service where you PAY them to design garish hideous banners for at least 20 euros.

More on FanFusion from nonnie in Wank_Report. Apparently, this isn't the first time they've harassed, plagiarised and stolen copyrighted material from a user who wanted to leave their service.

Harassing an owner of an urban-pop blog, and stealing her content.*

*Warning: Some of the comments use mysoginstic language (even the supportive ones) to the articles.
