Lessons from bronies: Removing ableist stereotypes is intolerant!
Remember the backlash when an episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic portrayed fan-favorite Ditzy/"Derpy" as "humorously" mentally challenged? Well, the concerns were heard, and the voice changed!

Aaaaand now some bronies are crying "ruined FOREVER!". To the tune of "not liking our insensitivity is intolerant!"

So, everyone who can now watch the clip without cringeing, you're harshing someone's squee, and that's terrible.

(That is an awful lot of trigger warnings, and I'm still paranoid I forgot some. These people are vile.)

Don't forget the hate mail campaign they unleashed against a fanartist who spoke out against the ableist portrayal! Never you mind how one random artist on the internet could possibly influence a multimillion dollar company to change their minds about anything, she was totally behind it all! It's true because a stranger on the internet told me!

But they are totally loving and tolerant and just the poor victims here, you guys! It was those meany mean faces who complained who are the horrible people!

Holy ever-loving shit the trans-hate in the last image. I'm covering my eyes because this makes me feel so bad. Holy shit forever.

Yeah, I must have stared slack-jawed at that comment for a good five minutes trying to wrap my mind around how anybody could be that hateful and awful and just... disgusting. I can't even.

Also, she isn't trans* in the first place, so even on top of the normal reaction of, "That is vile. WTF, why would you even say that?" there's another layer of "WTF? Why would you even say that?" It's like a horrid, putrefying onion of disgusted confusion.

I'm FtM but not transitioning (yet); I just want to claw my own skin off in horror at reading that. Where did they get the idea she is? This is so weird and WTF? Besides awful. Besides the most fucking awful shit ever. I can't.

I'm not sure, but I don't think that the "you're not a real woman" asshole necessarily thinks the letter-writer is trans. The asshole is gender-policing (which is inherently transphobic, of course, as well as misogynistic, homophobic, and totally fucked-up). The letter-writer stood up for what she believed in, therefore she's not a "real woman" and deserves to be raped.

That kind of thing has been directed at me plenty, from people who know that I am a cisgendered heterosexual woman. A woman who doesn't roll over and play dead for the boys isn't a "real woman", according to the gender police. Therefore you can call her anything and do anything you want to her.

There may be some further story that I'm missing behind this -- maybe that vile commenter did get the impression that the letter-writer was transgendered, somehow. But people like that never base their insults on facts, only on their ideals of what men and women "really" are. Anyone who doesn't conform to those ideals in every respect challenges the gender cop's worldview and must be pounded into dust.

There is something you are missing, yes.

They do think she is trans. The reason for this is that their target is an ally, who put the gender as "other".

It's not gender policing so much as plain transphobia. Typical brony stuff. They absolutely love being transphobic assholes even more than they love their homophobia (see the dude who, at other time, is arguing that homophobia is justified because homosexuals oppress and attack heterosexuals...apparently...).

Holy fuck, the trans-hate is horrific. D: I am nearly as sickened by jellywillreturn's signature in the next to last image, though. You support homophobia...because of heterophobes? No, no there are no so-called heterophobic people who are 'ten times more psychotic and violent' than homophobes. People who are straight do not have to worry about having hate crimes committed against them just because they are heterosexual, what in the ever living hell.

That's pretty typical for this group, actually. Most of them are incredibly homophobic, and seem to believe that disagreement with homophobia is a vicious, violent attack on their FREE SPEEEEEEEEECHHHHHH

Hm, yes. I actually had the 'discussion' with someone the other day about how no, it's not infringing on peoples rights to want them to stop using 'fag' casually.

She seemed to think it was gonna hurt their feelings not to be hateful.

What are the chances that they add the old gem of "I'm not homophobic, since I'm not afraid of gays. I just want them to die/keep their deviancies behind closed doors/stop polluting our national purity."? I think pretty high.

Feeling attacked is one thing - I live with people who think that me holding hands with my girlfriend is an infringement on their right to pretend that gay people don't exist.

But implying that people exist who hate people just for being straight so much that they are more psychotic and violent than homophobes have shown themselves to be over and over again, to the point of actual physical violence and murder...that's a new one for me, and one I could have done without. It made me so sick and angry I was shaking.

I have to live my entire life with the knowledge that if I say or do the wrong thing at the wrong time in front of the wrong people, I might be beaten or killed for it. I live in a red state in the midwest, it's not very theoretical here. Someone co-opting that fear to make a vile point of false reversion in a joke, I can't even.

Yep, pretty much. They have so little regard for gay people, they actually think that disagreement with their views is worse than us getting physically attacked or killed.

Ugh. I've dealt with homophobes -- specifically, insecure macho Marines with access to a gay neighborhood that the chief of police essentially said he wouldn't be worrying about the protection of. "Ten times more violent" than that shit would be someone who would choke on their own bile and die within minutes, not someone who disagrees, even angrily, about being shit on by assholes on the internet.

Yeah, that was pretty much my thoughts exactly. The whinging about their free speech and feeling oppressed by the very existence of gay people I've heard before, I get it thrown at me every day by my own family. "Just don't be that way, decent people shouldn't have to see/hear that shit." Whatever. And if I never hear another word about the 'gay agenda', it'll be too soon.

But this, ugh. It's like someone crying reverse racism - heterophobia, if such a thing did exist, cannot be compared to the kind of violence and oppression that homophobia has such a history of, for hundreds and even thousands of years. People have been beaten, tortured and killed just for being gay - not just a few, but hundreds of thousands over the years in every country and culture pretty much everywhere in the world. You can't get ten times more psychotic and violent than that, it's already at the end of the scale. Jesus.

And the facts are, no one has ever been killed or threatened with death or violence solely on the basis of being heterosexual. It just makes me sick that anyone would try to make that kind of comparison.
