Lessons from bronies: Removing ableist stereotypes is intolerant!
Remember the backlash when an episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic portrayed fan-favorite Ditzy/"Derpy" as "humorously" mentally challenged? Well, the concerns were heard, and the voice changed!

Aaaaand now some bronies are crying "ruined FOREVER!". To the tune of "not liking our insensitivity is intolerant!"

So, everyone who can now watch the clip without cringeing, you're harshing someone's squee, and that's terrible.

Seriously? She's not real. "The only ones at fault are the ones who complained"? Oh yeah, sounds like some more brony shaming to me. What the crap?

Well not THAT part. Maybe the actual pathos was in the previous video. It could also be that I was just off my med and it felt like it had more impact.

Except that this is just another vehicle for the same #SaveDerpy bullshit. Since they're setting her up like a real person crying into the computer that people don't like her offensive, ableist, fan-created name "Derpy Hooves" and says don't be mad at Hasbro! I...I love you all. Really...I'm sorry. I'm so sorry...I didn't mean to be offensive. She's not real. Her portrayal and her being named a legitimate slur is offensive. Nobody has a problem with the character beyond these things. How about if we don't call her a slur, and she isn't portrayed negatively? Guess what! The character isn't going anywhere, just the shitty ableist, shaming portrayal is. So what the crap is with all this fucking projection onto this character like she matters more than the people that were offended by her getting screamed at by Rainbow Dash/getting a stereotypical voice? Are you even getting this?

I apologize. I was in a very brittle state when I listened to her videos on the subject. My anti-depressant hadn't kicked in yet, and I cry at the drop of a hat in that state. I guess I perceived nuance where there wasn't any. This was the video where she talked about her experiences. Listening to it now, wow. It's not really any better, is it?

I did not want to come off as defending the people crying "censorship" and blaming the people that got offended, because using "Derpy" is hurtful. Please forgive my hasty comments. There's too much pain in the world for me to ever want to add to it.

No, it's not really any better, especially because she opens with the general sentiment that "I don't find derp offensive and I went to special ed classes." It's great that she doesn't find it offensive, but people who aren't her do, and I wish people involved in this could figure that the fuck out (I refer to bronies, not you). There's been "well words are only offensive if you let them be; ANYTHING can be offensive!" as if that isn't the biggest line of bullshit in the world (gee, why do people get offended by racist/other -ism slurs?! They could just not be offended!) as well as "I don't find it offensive so therefore it isn't!" (except the world is populated by billions of people that aren't you, what a concept!). Just a sampling of views related to hers that have been spewed from all corners of the internet.

I can take your word on that, and I get what it's like to have depression. I've had it for over half my life and I can understand the triggering reaction to seeing/hearing pretty much anything emotional. I'm sorry you're going through that and I can understand where you're coming from. I'm pretty upset by all of this which is why I reacted negatively right off to the link to a typical "save Derpy" thing.

It's okay, I get what you mean. Apology accepted. I hope you feel better (in general). I've been there.
