Lessons from bronies: Removing ableist stereotypes is intolerant!
Remember the backlash when an episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic portrayed fan-favorite Ditzy/"Derpy" as "humorously" mentally challenged? Well, the concerns were heard, and the voice changed!

Aaaaand now some bronies are crying "ruined FOREVER!". To the tune of "not liking our insensitivity is intolerant!"

So, everyone who can now watch the clip without cringeing, you're harshing someone's squee, and that's terrible.

Being respectful is twee now, is it? I know people who prefer the "differently-abled" term, and people who don't care. I was just being respectful of both sides. And if you'd stop raging for a moment, you would notice I've said Hasbro did the right thing in the end. We don't get to legislate how others feel be we do have the right to legislate how they treat others based on those feelings. Hasbro did the right thing.

This isn't about feelings.

I thought this was about people finding Derpy offensive, organizing to get Hasbro to change it, and being glad they listened and did so? I'm agreeing that this was a good ending to a bad situation. This is the part where we now both go, "Right! Moving along."

Except you're acting like this is just a bunch of people who had their feelings hurt. Something being ableist isn't just about people being upset, it's about furthering the negative stereotypes about disabled people.

Actually, you keep missing the 180 I did. Hell. I've been doing donuts over and over again to show that my original comment was ill-informed and I've come to understand the topic better now. I AM AGREEING WITH YOU. I don't know how to make that any clearer.

And yet you don't apologize for saying offensive things and completely erasing people with disabilities who dislike this. Way to miss the point.

I have said several times now that those people with disabilities who find this offensive are more important than those who don't care or who support the character. I said it was good that Hasbro fixed it. I said I didn't have a full understanding of how people felt or the actual problems with the character because I've never seen the show or character. I said I was wrong once I saw what was actually going on. I'm sorry I didn't understand better from the beginning and I'm sorry I have hurt people because of it. Do you get me clearer now?

And before you say "I'm not talking about feelings!" please see where I said "the actual problems with the character" meaning that her portrayal was inappropriate and furthered a hurtful stereotype.

Do really think any of this makes you look less like an entitled asshole?

Do you really think any of the attacking someone for honestly admitting their mistake and owning up to it makes you look like the more morally-intact person? Do we want to encourage people to rethink this whole Derpy situation as I did and come to the right conclusion or do we want to tell them once they've offended you, they will always be an irredeemable asshole who can never be a decent human being?

And before you say it, I'm not looking for kudos, a pat on the back, a medal or trophy, an attaboy, or anything like that.I'd just like to see something akin to, "Right. Good that's sorted out. Moving along." not a "I'm getting the last word and the last word is you're an asshole! I'll say it as many times as I need to keep the last word!" Consider this me letting you have the last word. I was wrong originally and I'm sorry I hurt people because of it. My fault, my job to make up for it. Hasbro did the right thing. I'm glad it happened.

I can't imagine what else I could say/feel. Sorry to have troubled you so. Good day. I won't read/reply further.

You erased actual disabled people defending a bunch of ableist assholes. And rather than apologize you acted like a martyr because you ~meant well~. You don't get to claim you're a morally upright person when you don't care about the people you've offended. You don't get points because you're pretending to be nice about it or claiming you don't want to get the last word.
