Lessons from bronies: Removing ableist stereotypes is intolerant!
Remember the backlash when an episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic portrayed fan-favorite Ditzy/"Derpy" as "humorously" mentally challenged? Well, the concerns were heard, and the voice changed!

Aaaaand now some bronies are crying "ruined FOREVER!". To the tune of "not liking our insensitivity is intolerant!"

So, everyone who can now watch the clip without cringeing, you're harshing someone's squee, and that's terrible.

It's wank like this (but mostly the ridiculously sexist and overall repellant mindset of the typical "bro") that make me leery of calling myself a brony. I like FiM. I liked the G1 cartoon when I saw it, especially the movie with the Smooze, but the horrible misogyny and entitlement of the brony community at large scares me. The creepy lemons are just the rancid icing on the manure sundae. (or would that be the rancid icing on the baked bad?)

This hasn't quite destroyed my enjoyment of the show, but it sure has destroyed a lot of my faith in the fandom. I hadn't even considered the gender politics of the fandom before this wank. Shit like this makes me want to turn in my Y chromosome. Well, shit like this and "Texts From Last Night."

You don't have to, though. If the label doesn't fit you, reject it! For all that those who it does fit try to make it sound all-inclusive - "we are all bronies (no homo)" :p - IMO it's entirely possible to be a fan without identifying as a "brony."

Kinda like how the sane Harry/Hermonine Shippers separated themselves from the "Harmony/Harmoinan" Shippers, the ones that saw their ship wasn't gonna be canon shrugged and merrily went off to write AU fics.

And one of my friends, someone who I'd thought would totally grok the issue, is in the "ruined forever, diaf people that hated old Derpy" camp, and he's a Canadian of African descent of low income and clinical depression to boot. He'd be bisexual, if we existed.

He's pretty colonized, and it's sad.

I understand the appeal of a punchy label, and I love wordplay. I'll probably think of something. The closest I can come up with is "Unicorndog" because I like punchy labels, unicorns, and shipping fics. I can't say I have any OTP in the fandom, unless Pinkie Pie/4th Wall is an OTP.

Some people on sf_drama have taken to calling themselves fanicorns. :)

The solution is to just call yourself a my little pony fan. What Zoom said, you don't have to use that label.
