NEWS FLASH: In the future, we may not all be white!
The cast for the movie of The Hunger Games has been known for a while, but a certain segment of the fandom is having a hard time coming to terms with something about it: Namely, that Rue and Thresh, both described in the book as dark-skinned, will be played by African-American actors. Worse, so will Cinna, whose ethnicity isn't mentioned, and therefore must be white.

Hunger Games Tweets has been keeping its eye on some of the worse elements. Warning: Some extremely vile, racist language. Did you know that sweet, innocent girls must always be pale and fair-haired? And gay men can't be black? I'm telling you, it's an education.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go vomit.

I don't tend to imagine what book characters look like. I take whatever the author tells me about it, and keep that in mind, but I never fill the blanks myself. Which is why I was aware that Rue and Thresh were black, and that Peeta has blonde hair, and Gale is dark-haired. There was never a description of Cinna except his gold eyeliner, so in my head he was basically just gold eyeliner.

I still think Lenny Kravitz is an interesting choice for the role, because I didn't knew he was acting. But the moment I saw his first picture I thought he was perfect. There's a certain sense of integrity around him none of the other characters possesses. Which is exactly what I expected in Cinna.

As for the wank... I really don't know what to say. It's vile.

and now I'm picturing him as a giant walking, talking tube of eyeliner, and worrying my cats with my incessant giggling/snorking

And now imagine spending three (!) books like that. ;-)

I always feel bad because whenever I see Lenny Kravitz cast in something, my first thought is "Lenny Kravitz acts?" even though I've had that same thought at least 3 times. In my defense, he usually does movies I don't have much interest in seeing (sorry Lenny Kravitz!).

I actually checked his IMDB page after posting. Which is when I found out that I saw him in Precious, and I had the exact same thought, too, back then. Somehow I forget he acts even after watching one of his movies. And that's even though I really liked him in Precious.
