If you want to be really amazed, read the English Wiki talk page from that article, where one heroic (non-German) person is valiantly defending the way things should be among educated and well-mannered people against feminist activists like the Duden. (Completely OT, but I occasionally re-read that one and wonder what could possibly possess someone to go on such a crusade on an issue that does not even directly affect them, complete with possible sock-puppets and definitely invented experiences.)
