Kickstarter Project vs Gamers, or: Why don't you think about the MEN?!
Tropes vs Women in Video Games is a project by a single woman to look at and analyze several tropes and stereotypes in gaming that concerns female characters. Sounds like a reasonable project, right?

Apparently, the internet doesn't seem to agree.

This goes as well as you think.

Major trigger warnings for each link. Don't wade through comments, as usual.

I imagine a lot of people realize that their money might not go directly into making episodes, especially once they greatly passed the minimum amount. I mean, really, is anybody saying, "Well, she's already gotten more than most people make in two years, but I'm every dollar is going into making 15 minute videos for the Internet!" Naw, most people are donating to make a point to the assholes, and to support someone they respect (and for the higher amounts, to basically buy the downloads/dvds/etc). If she buys a car, then she's kinda just proving that you can turn internet notoriety into a livelihood sometimes.

Plus, most of these video series require the makers spending a lot of their own money to create, even if they get donations/funding. And if you're spending your own money to make free entertainment/education for someone else, then you're probably going to respectful with the donations.

Er, sorry for the tl;dr, apparently that really pissed me off.
