I didn't find a precise source about the eggs, but there has been more than one riot in Montreal (usually involving the french being pissed off at the english, and who can totally blame them?) and said riots usually involved throwing rotten eggs.

...also, I'm so relieved that we have the internet. I'd rather see seventy-page flame wars than people getting killed or injured by a building falling on them because actors don't like each other.
