It's simple: the spectacle of a relentlessly bullied and institutionally oppressed too-bright-for-his-britches kid's Roaring Rampage Of Revenge against his tormentors (and absolute exculpability because Reasons and Reasons and Reasons) is primo catnip to the sort of kid likely to gravitate to SF fandom; the troubling Protagonist-Centered Morality tends to take longer to sink in.

Obviously, the best thing to do when people think you might probably be an asshole (well, you almost certainly are, but some people may be willing to give you some leeway) is to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I'm also somehow bereft of sympathy for people whose claim to "victimization" is that people are annoyed by their acting like assholes. And who claim history is on their side when they clearly don't know a thing about it. I always love Christians who are furious at the idea of marriage being something other than a religious ceremony between a man and a woman because "that's what it has always been". Why aren't they equally irritated at the idea of it only being a man and one woman? Or irritated by it being, idk, religious at all and not simply a business contract between families?

Boycott and public shunning are still far more generous than what OSC has said would be an appropriate level of "tolerance" for people who aren't heterosexual supremacists.

It's really kinda pathetic...one minute a policy of intimidation and imprisonment is "tolerance" (because he didn't insist that all of us be given life sentences or executed), the next minute a disinclination to promote someone's work is "intolerant."

	Someone set us up the damage control. What baffles me is that they had to know about Card's homophobia from the start; you can't stop tripping over the evidence if you Google him. Fuck that logic. If you want to make the comparison to Polanski, don't give him a pass. He and Card have both tangibly harmed people. Whether or not you think Polanski only "assaulted" someone once is goddamn irrelevant and completely minimizes what that fucker actually did.
