Someone set us up the damage control.
What baffles me is that they had to know about Card's homophobia from the start; you can't stop tripping over the evidence if you Google him. So this is a total ass-covering move. They could have secured the rights, said "fuck you," and tossed OSC at the start but clearly they wanted his presence for free publicity. Oops.
