tw: rape apologism in the think progress piece

"I’ve never given Roman Polanski any of my money, even though I think he’s unlikely to commit sexual assault again, because I have no interested in financing his ongoing mockery of the American justice system"

Oh, okay. Because drugging and sodomizing one fourteen year old is exactly the kind of thing guys do only once. And Polanski never, ever was involved with anyone while they were suspiciously young. Natasha Kinski? Who's that? And his wife being 30+ years younger? Nope, not relevant at all. Polanski just assaulted one person; he's not a predator.

Fuck that logic. If you want to make the comparison to Polanski, don't give him a pass. He and Card have both tangibly harmed people. Whether or not you think Polanski only "assaulted" someone once is goddamn irrelevant and completely minimizes what that fucker actually did.

Yeah, a lot of that article bugged me but that one stood out particularly as a pile of steaming bullshit.

Seconded. Being a fan of stuff produced by horrible people is something that needs to be addressed, but that article did a really poor job of it.

Out of curiosity, what else about the article bugged you?

before I dig it out, do you want a point by point reply or just a general answer?

Upon reflection, it was where she started talking about 'but what about the other people in the moovie'

To be fair, that is sort of a dilemma for me as well, especially as far as the younger actors are concerned -- I would love to see them go on to have successful careers; it's just a shame that they're doing it through the adaptation of a work by such a hateful person.

*Er, perhaps that should be "continue to have successful careers."

Aye. I mean, if the author was a different person or wasn't actively funding hate, I'd probably go see. But he is who he is and it feels like a diversion tactic, right?
