Night Vale fandom, especially on Tumblr, is way extreme in their snowflakeyness. FFA had one person turn up on meme trying to argue that the existence of darkfic is tainting the pure example of joyful queerness that is Cecil/Carlos, which went over about as well as you would expect. So on the bright side, this wouldn't work in the vast majority of fandoms/with most fandom people. On the down side, WTNV fandom's mores are such that it worked there and that represents a pretty huge cultural shift. So I don't think it's going to be the new thing, but I'd also recommend not touching WTNV with a barge pole and keeping a weather eye on new fandoms in case they start going the same way.

	Things like this really make me glad that my lack of interest in the Cecil/Carlos kept me from ever getting involved in the fandom, since it wasn't worth the effort to find fic for characters/plotlines I was interested in that didn't turn out to be primarily the Cecil and Carlos show. 	Personally I feel like I get enough of them on the show, so I look for stuff on Tamika or Earl Harland, or on Cecil or Carlos outside their romance with each other. Though there's this supergood Carloscentric novel-length "His Dark Materials/Golden Compass" AU I've been following that's just stellar. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Ha, I went into listening to the show assuming I'd end up loving the pairing, since everyone I saw talking about the show adored it so much, and then was surprised that it totally left me cold. I'm fine with them being together, but we just don't see enough of Carlos outside of Cecil's biased accounts about him for me to really get into them (Old Oak Doors did finally made me start feeling it a little with their conversation in the first part and Carlos' voice mail in the second though).

I had to use all my willpower not to respond to this when I was searching the wtnv tag this morning.

For one, have you fucking met the Night Vale fandom? Incidents like this aren't rare. For another...you're complaining about white cosplayers? White people putting on costumes for what they like? I'd reply but I don't need the rage in my life, nor do I need people hunting down photos of me to prove that I'm white and therefore don't have a place in the conversation. It reduces an interesting, complex show to a collection of SJ buzzwords and identity policing.

I'd say at least she's staying out of it and not bothering the rest of us but most of her tumblr is talking about the show, including talking about how she wants to do something nice for the creators after this incident.

What's weird is that a large portion of the people who do this are white (or other majority) themselves. Medievalpoc, who does a lot of wanking about PoC erasure in history that may or may not have happened, turned out to be white themselves after someone did some tumblr digging. (Not that I condone hunting down evidence of people's race in order to prove them wrong.)

I think they just like to sound superior. They say they're not comfortable in the fandom but I doubt I'm going to see them acting to make other people more comfortable.

They would not be, if all they did was post art. A lot of what they do is ranting at the people who drop things into their inbox, or at other tumblr posts. Some of the rants were informative but others seemed to act like being polite or informative to people asking questions on a tumblr focused on education was a personal slight against them.

Here is the wank_report on the subject and some quick googling finds this discussion about them on FFA.

It's why I unfollowed them. I like art and art history, but a good half of it was long repetitive diatribes at anons and I am trying to get the SJ yelling as far away from my dash as possible.

	And for some reason they feel the urge to answer all of them with increased amounts of anger. They've got the right to do what they want on their own blog but I don't need that in my life.
