I am with you on Team Singular 'They' (along with Jane Austen and Mark Twain and Samuel Johnson and everyone awesome).

But, yeah, if someone wants to be called a particular non-standard pronoun, I will respect that person's wishes somehow. (Sometimes it's by avoiding pronouns, but in any case I'm not mis-pronouning them.)
