There is a long history of white women (a group t_boy is not actually a member of, of course, but most people here are) using genuine sexism by some muslim men as an excuse to make islamophobic generalisations about all muslim men. This is not actually helpful to muslim women, since if nothing else it implies that the only way they can be safe and happy is to cut themselves off from their faith, friends, family and culture. Calling out this dynamic (which t_boy was inadvertently contributing to, even though that's not how he meant it) is not the same as going "oh noez the men".

That said, Afshan Azad's experience was pretty horrific, and it is unfortunate that ALL the other comments(*) have focused on the way the post was written rather than it's content, even if I think the way it was written does imo deserve comment.

I hope she find some way to get safe :(

(*)Thus far, at least, and excluding the overgeneralising and prejudiced comment below. Huzzah for a variety of viewpoints!
