Thing is, I know of several "intellectuals" down the Rio Grande who had that very same mindset, but there are several countries whose school History curricula was written under the Black Legend ideology, so they have a justification of sorts.
Yeah, we Latinamericans have a heavy "Oppression!" complex, but I never saw such a glorious specimen of this mindset since the day a gang of chavistas pulled down the statue of Colombus in Plaza Venezuela and then painted grafitti consigns and insults all over the place.
