"Oh, I dunno. The whole reason I couldn't get up much sympathy for Emmett Till over on terri's lj was because he was popular and "acting macho."
Hai u guis! If you're popular u DESERVE to be pistol whipped until your face has been so disfigured, your own mother can barely recognize you.
In my reading on the case I even found his family quoted as expressing that his death was *especially* tragic because he *was* so popular.
And not that his killers were acquitted by all-white jury and then bragged about how they had, in fact, killed him in a magazine? Or that some newspapers claimed that Till deserved to die because his father had been convicted of rape, so Emmett was, by default, a rapist as well?
