What is all of that bullshit about Wuthering Heights? I mean seriously, if I tilt my head just right and squint my eyes I can kinda see "Severus" as a Heathcliff but Lily as a Cathy? Even La-La Land would reject that "logic". For instance, I know that some people say Severus hates Hermione because she's muggleborn. I don't think that he *likes* her, but I'm not aware of any evidence that her ancestry is the reason for his dislike. But Severus is a Slytherin, and Slytherins are anti- muggleborn, so that must be his reason, even if there's no evidence of it. God, Lynn comes soooooooo close with this statement yet still manages to slide away at the speed of light near the end (bold mine). I don't think "Severus" dislikes Hermione because she's Muggleborn. But his dislike for her is connected to Slytherin House, but it isn't because of Slytherin anti-Muggleborn attitudes. IT'S BECAUSE OF SLYTHERIN ANTI-GRYFFINDOR ATTITUDES. So it's still a form of prejudice. Bad dog, no biscuit! She is pretty, popular, talented, and apparently near the top of her class, at least in Potions. The implication being that being pretty, popular, talented and smart automatically means prejudice simply CAN NOT exist against this person and is, in reality, directed against "Severus" because he's ugly. Pardon me while I seethe with contempt for approximately the next twenty years. >:( And I absolutely love (in a horrified, can't-look-away-from-the-train-wreck sort of way) how mary_j_59 schools all women of color on how they should feel about Lily because MJ59 knows exactly what kind of lives lovely people like ravenstar84 and randomneses have and exactly what level of prejudice they come up against on a daily basis. Which, since she describes them both as "bright", means none, by her logic (see previous paragraph). Bottom line: all of this crap is just one more reason why I hate people and plan to become a crazy cat lady in my golden years. Post a comment in response: |
