Pff, boys don't count. We must have every tiny bit of information and useless trivia about female characters made available for us to pore over, but we don't need information about boys. The lack of background information makes them so mysterious and sexy. Girls are not allowed to have mysterious backgrounds. God forbid we should have a female character whose background is vague enough to let lots of female readers identify with her.
