Yup. And although young Lily isn't portrayed as "saintly" (she's rude and flippant with James, even though she seem like she kinda already has the hots for him), she's also shown to be smart, kind, and loyal to her friends. Perhaps that's one of the reasons she was popular. I'm sure being pretty didn't hurt, but she had other positive qualities. She sympathizes with and defends Snape, until, you know, he calls her a vile name. But I guess she's just supposed to forget about it and understand that it's not his fault. Because people are mean to him? And when she doesn't, that means young Lily was an asshole and a crappy friend? Or something.
