I think it's worse than that... they seem to think that being a loving, self-sacrificing mother is fundamentally contradictory to being an outspoken young girl who stands up to bullying.

And if the fact that Lily is a woman doesn't come into play somewhere here, they're doing a damn good job falsely incriminating themselves.
