Plus, the reason Snape doesn't have many friends isn't because he's not traditionally attractive. Neville, at least when he's younger, is chubby and awkward. But he still has friends, because he displays integrity and kindness. Some of the nastier Slytherin kids rag on him, but most of the other students like him, and things keep getting better for him as he gains confidence and his social skills improve. Snape, on the other hand, was just a really unpleasant guy. He's a bigot, he hangs around with creeps, and he studies dark magic. He tries to get other students in trouble if he doesn't like them. Snape might've never had a chance at Prom King, but loneliness and a bad reputation, he earned.
