justira ([info]justira) wrote in [info]unfunny_fandom,
I tend to be able to recognize crazybrain and logicbrain at work (usually), but unfortunately it doesn't seem to help my actual experience much; everyone's setup, situation, development, and progression are different, I guess. I've always been kind of extremely self-analytical, ever since I can remember (including the dead dinosaurs incident) but it's never seemed to do much for me. It's made therapy kind of weird and complicated and often useless-feeling.

Therapist: "These feelings are a result of X, Y, and Z, and this is how you're acting them out."
Me: "Yes, I know. Now what?"

Or, more commonly,

Me: "I know that these feelings are a result of X, Y, and Z, and I'm pretty sure they make other people feel like A, B, C. Now what?"
Therapist: "..."

The sticking point it that knowing... it's not like it doesn't help, of course it does. But it feels like I need steps beyond knowing, which I can do pretty well on my own from a lifetime of practice. But though some people have given suggestions for such steps, none of them seem to have really worked, so far. But knowing always feels like the correct first step, for me, so understanding more about tendencies like the mortality thing is good.

Man, thank you again for sharing -- it help knowing I'm far from the only one to do this. I've tried therapy and medication before, but it was all very focused on my depression, and it just... wasn't working out. I've been trying to arm myself for a more holistic approach, starting with a general battery of testing/questions to figure out what ELSE I have, because I'm 99.9% convinced there are other things, too (and one confirmed, a mildish case of OCD). So this kind of thing really helps, thank you =)
