*Lily* disliked him because of his friends. James and Sirius gave him the name Snivellus on the Hogwarts express. JKR has said that James treated him so badly because he(J) was jealous. So, no, being bullied was not Snape's own fault at all. Losing Lily's friendship was (maybe not exclusively but at least also).
