There's Real World free speech, and Internet Debate Free Speech. Real World Free Speech: 1) Has different levels of legal protection in different countries 2) In most countries where there's freedom of speech, applies to government action against speech 3) In most countries where there's freedom of speech, means the government cannot, except in the case of certain legal exemptions, ban certain types of speech, or subject people to legal penalties for what they say. Internet Debate Free Speech 1) The First Amendment applies everywhere in the world. 2) Freedom of speech means no one is allowed to 'oppress' you by trying to get you to stop saying stuff. 3) Things you're not allowed to do because of freedom of speech include criticizing someone else's statements, asking them not to say stuff, insulting them based on what they say, persuading them to alter or remove certain things they've posted (even if the actual person who wrote it is going "Yeah, that's a good point, I'm sorry" and voluntarily making the change, it's ZOMGOPRESSHUN! from the PC Police), or saying anything that might discourage them from saying whatever pops into their heads. All of this is just as bad as throwing someone in prison for writing a book. Basically, Internet Debate Free Speech allows for any kind of speech except speech that's critical of other speech.
