As someone who translates Japanese things as a hobby, I cannot even begin to enumerate the ways in which that wouldn't work. (And that's not even getting into the really egregious things like "Mandarin symbols" and "Kanji language" and the fact that you never see Japanese sentences that are entirely devoid of kana unless you're looking at something really archaic.)
