It would! And I'd be more than willing to be paid some of that cash and put up with some of their criticism for them as a substitute, if only it were possible.

Instead, all that seems to happen is that authors go "B-but I'm successful! I'm perfect and a genius! How dare you criticise the wonderful me?" Although in most cases, they really do seem to care about negative reviews of their books and their potential for putting readers off buying them, they fail to understand that getting involved in verbal combat with said reviewers is never going to make them look good. At least there are plenty of sensible writers out there too...
