Current mood:WTF??

Since today seems to be all about this kind of fail
Oh, no, Lucas and Spielberg and Kasdan, no!

Possibly triggering for molestation/victim blaming, definitely rage-inducing.

Suddenly I'm glad I only liked the 3rd installment of the whole series.

It's clearly the best one.

Though I do like Raiders. I ignore that other thing in the middle. It's kind of like an unsightly facial tumor.

Yep! It's the only one I truly love. I so love Indy and Indy Daddy. I like the sniping and interactions. It made it for me.

Plus the bird scene.

Really? Connery made the whole movie.

I once wrote an essay about the ways in which Temple of Doom fails not as a film but as an Indiana Jones film, that largely boiled down to "Indy needs a strong woman to keep him in line" and "Stick with Christian theology" if I recall correctly.

Well, Connery tends to make every movie he's in. Please see Dragonheart.

"Stick with Christian theology" if I recall correctly.

I'd say the fourth one highlighted that one entirely. The strong female is good foible for him, I think. He needs someone that will put him right in his place when he does something stupid.

It's the biggest reason why I love Raiders and Last Crusade and can't hate Crystal Skull - Elsa is kind of awesome, and Marion is my favorite, because she's just like "I love you, but you are a jerkass and an idiot and I will so call you on it".

The third one's my favorite as well. I like the first one, and Temple of Doom continues to be hilarious and cracky.

I didn't hate the fourth one until "And suddenly, Aliens!"

I love the third one for the character moments. For me, they always make a film worthwhile. I'm not a fan of the other two. I never really loved Indy.

The fourth one is just....wrong because of the aliens. It just took all the joy out. Though, I liked the ending when Indy, Jr. picked up the hat and Indy took it right back.

Yeah, it's like... I get what they were trying to do with the aliens. The original trilogy is an homage to early 20th century adventure serials, so the 20-years-later film is of course an homage to 50's sci-fi serials. But it just fails in execution and leaves the audience going "...this is the stupidest thing I have ever watched", because Indiana Jones isn't a sci-fi franchise.

That's the one I like too. Sean Connery FTW. Though I do have fond memories from the TV series - which I watched when I was in junior high, so it might very well have oceans of badness that I just didn't see.

ConnerySr. was awesome at needling Indy. I never saw the series since I've never been a major Indy fan.

I don't think I'd even seen an Indy movie when I saw the series. I just watched anything on TV that seemed aimed at my age group.

Yeah, I never watched the "aimed at" demographic, really. My choices were always too random. Except maybe Buffy.

Well, the alternative was pretty much stuff aimed at senior citizens or preschoolers. :-)
