It's fucking pathetic, but I'm not going to stoop to getting personal in the thread on FB. I've made my point, I think.

In other news, I have five paintings to finish for a sci-fi exhibition, and right now I'm triggered and strung out from no sleep and feeling like it doesn't matter what the fuck I put on that canvas, I was stupid enough to be born a woman so nobody is going to give a shit. YAY NEGATIVE THINKING!

Sorry, spooging needlessly, but this whole thing has got me down and worn me out.

Thanks, dude. I was just having a moment. Usually I keep that shit to myself but I was motoring on no sleep and a month to go to the exhibition. So my filter just sort of broke. *sheepish smile*

Don't worry, I will be putting photos of the paintings up in my deviant-art account after the exhibition for my international friends. They'll be nicely photographed, too.

And thanks for the link to the comm. Looks like an awesome comm! Pity it seems to have a preference for the movie, as most of my love of Trek is centered in TOS Original and TNG. :T

Oh good! Crusher is my favourite TNG woman by far, so I'm glad to know fandom is fairly active around her.

I think it's cause Trek was my first fandom. I was practically breast-fed the damned stuff. Mum painted pictures of it, she read the novels, it was on TV and Mum taped it and watched it over and over again. Our family has a whole host of in-jokes and lore built up around it. We have an ongoing game where we quote the most obscure lines from the original series as we can, and whoever can't pick the episode the quote is from, loses the game. To have the official source of our fun basically condone rape and sex slavery is just - very hurtful. In a way I wasn't expecting.

I seem to have a habit of butting in to these comment threads lol. But I saw you love Crusher, which we have in common, and also being Trek fans since childhood. I remember watching ToS reruns with my Dad when I was little, and then when TNG came on we used to watch it together every week. It was one of my fave shows in junior high (that and original 90210). I find it pretty fitting I went to the '09 Trek with my Dad, since it's something I've shared with him pretty much my whole life. So far I'm the only person I know practically raised on Trek, so it's nice to have company!

My sister Helen *still cries* when she sees that film. And she's seen it, like, hundreds of times! When my sister Cati got her a book of Leonard Nimoy's photos with a personalised message in it? My sister Helen *burst into tears* and then went sort of into shock. It was so adorable, the poor thing! It's her prized possession that she only handles with white cotton gloves.

We're so Trekky we even love the Animated Series like fire. I love that series cause Uhura gets to do some seriously good shit, like command the Enterprise. Oh, and Lt. M'Ress. I dressed up as her once. *^_^*

And the fashion one has made me all >:|, because for the first time *ever*, she decided to do something that isn't posting old fashion and posted three rupaul's drag race pictures with quotes from mean girls. So I was startled to find some really horrible language on the front page when I was checking it to make sure I'd give you the right link.

But if you scroll past those three pictures, the stuff she posts is always very interesting and those pictures are the very rare times she's offered anything that isn't directly related to her posts. As far as I can tell, the only other time was when she mentioned she didn't like fifties fashion much because the other decades were more interesting.

I love retro fashion, basically because in those days the emphasis was in the line, the proper construction of dresses to augment and flatter the figure (rather than the figure being trimmed down to flatter the fashion) and sparklies. I love sparklies and colour! Retro likes sparklies and colour. Makes me a happy Nacey. Hell, one of my comics is retro just so I can imagine beautiful dresses and outfits on the heroines.

	If you go back a fair bit (she updates so much, even if it was just a few days ago) you'll find she did a great section on my favourite designer, Jean-Phillipe Worth, and his brother Charles Fredericke Worth. Butting in to say I totally agree! Back in fashion school, I felt kind of like a throwback b/c that's how I would design my clothes--they were meant to look better on the body than on the hanger. A lot of the stuff I designed would have to be worn by girls with curves. Which is ironic, considering that I have the kind of figure (skinny with no boobs/butt) that is better suited for fashion as we're used to it now.

I've run into too many people that say, "Oh, but their body ruins the line of the clothes" and my internal narration goes, "WHAT THE HELL? ARE you a designer of clothes for humans or ARE YOU NOT? Do they teach you NOTHING about proper construction of clothes?!"

But a lot of the standards have slipped with modern production methods. Hems. What did they ever do to us? Why are we so cruel to the simple hem?! Do you know how many pieces of clothing I see in stores, particularly up-market fashion boutiques, where the clothes don't even have a decent hem?!

Oh, I have heard that too. I was told that reason why models look how they do is b/c the clothes look better on a hanger than on a body, and basically models are human hangers. This mentality confounds me. For me, clothes and the body are so closely tied together that when I design, one of the first things I consider is how the clothes will look on the body.

tbh I always felt I wasn't as edgy or creative of a designer as many of my classmates, but I was more interested in costume design, so I was OK with it. If I did do fashion design my looks would definitely be more suited to practical ready-to-wear clothes than high fashion.

The same attitude informed the sort of modern architects Tom Wolfe skewered in From Bauhaus to Our House; some of them were reportedly in the habit of paying periodic visits to the tenants of their buildings and dressing them down for living in them wrongly--cluttering the sleek, unified Jetsonian line with things like floral upholstery and sentimental bric-a-brac.
