Star Trek endorses Rape Culture
(TW: Rape Culture, objectification, enslaving women)

Hey everybody? You know what Star Trek needs? More objectification and exploitation of women! But we'll make them *green*, and alien so that it differentiates them from Earth women. That'll throw off the feminist hordes!

What am I talking about?

Why, Official Star Trek Fratboy shirts featuring the words "ORION SLAVES GONE WILD" on a t-shirt specifically being marketed to Frat Boys for Spring Break.

I wish I was kidding. I *so* wish I was kidding. I think what hurts the most about this is this is Star Trek. Ostensibly, it's supposed to be inclusive.

Bonus: These shirts were advertised on the official Star Trek Facebook page! No warning, no words, just a trigger out of the friggin' blue, with a heapin' help of "Get back in the kitchen" jokes for any women that complained about it in the comment thread.

- I get threatened to be whipped.
- One guy threatened to show me what it was like to *not* survive a rape, but thankfully that was taken down. You see the fallout of that comment later.

Why is it when someone merely *mentions* that something might be exploitative or offensive in a firm tone that challenges the status quo, the death threats and the rage!posting occurs? It's like fucking clockwork.

You know, fandom isn't doing much to make me not be disgusted by it these days

I'm sorry this happened to you, bb :(

It's cool, yo. I once had the wife of the guy that raped me mock me and victim blame me openly in her LJ, their friends all playing along and joining in. Then she said they were all going to be at the con that I had aimed to sell some paintings at (that never happened due to the breakdown I had over the harrassment), which I ended up missing most of. *THAT* was scary.

This is just disappointing and depressing. One funny bit - the young douchebag Shaun? I think it's Shaun or Shawn? Anyway, he goes, "Man, I didn't realise how DUMB some people were! Makes me realise how INTELLIGENT I am!" And oh, how I laughed.

Shane, it was Shane. And yeah, I hate getting into pissing contests over who's smarter but I spent the whole time I was in that thread just thinking, "I'm ignorant? You're intelligent? I have two graduate degrees and I am much, much smarter than you. Also, I know the difference between England and Scotland."

I've read all your comments here and have tried a few times to write something meaningful in response, but all that comes to mind is I'm so sorry for the way you've been treated. There aren't any words for how absolutely vile some people are.

I hope you're feeling better now. Here is a Kurt Hummel icon to help cheer you up. *hands over delicious pie*

This probably sounds terrible, but you get to the point where you're largely innured to it. It's like, "Yes, again. Oh well." I mean, I nearly burst into tears when I heard that Wil Wheaton thought that the Dickwolves Debacle was something he didn't approve of. I was *that* thankful that not another source of entertainment and joy for me was sullied by rape culture.

The default reaction seems to be, "Sigh, of course. Of course it's like that."

That said, I will gladly take the pie, and the icon of the adorable homosexual boy. *squishes him*

Have another! :D I swear, Chris Colfer was put on this earth purely to make us all smile. No matter how bad a day I'm having, just looking at a picture of him or watching an interview or one of his scenes is enough to make me forget my troubles.

Ahem. I may or may love this guy to pieces.

No, it doesn't sound terrible at all. You have to do that sometimes, just so you can get through the day. I do a similar thing - 'oh, we're being called terrorists again, how original'. And Wil Wheaton said that? Oh man, that's awesome. I love that guy so much.
